recyclecentral.org is a brand new online recycling community that spans the globe.
A group of people have joined together to do lots of great things online. It is just starting out, so check back often to see all sorts of new stuff!
If you have a computer, this site is a must see!
If there isn't anything going on in your area, click in "Team Recyc leCentral" and ask about anything up and coming or about starting something yourself!
Freedomcycle.org is an online recycling community that allows nearby residents to unclutter their homes by giving away stuff that they no longer need.
Too many useful things end up being tossed into landfills when our neighbors our out purchasing the same things to use in their homes! It is outrageous!
The Freedomcycle groups in Connecticut are just wonderful.
The moderators really listed to what the members want. They really care.
Check out Freedomcycle.org today!
PROS: unneeded stuff picked up at your door for free, get stuff for free
We tried using freecycle, but found out that the management is too disorganized, the customer service is severely lacking and the treatment via email is unbelievably bad.
Thankfully for us, our local moderators are no longer associated with freecycle, and we are able to recycle our items through yahoo groups with a wonderful local group in CT called Freedomcycle.
While we feel that the idea of Freecycle is wonderful, we would highly recommend that you do not support the Freecycle organization, but that you support another local online community where members are much more appreciated and valued.
CONS: customer service, responses from management are unsatisfactory
A Price Chopper recently opened up near us.
After checking to see if they offered mobility scooters to their customers (they do!) we decided to check them out.
We found the quality of the produce to be fabulous!
While the prices are a bit higher than both Stop & Shop and Shaws, and the store is a bit out of the way, we will occassionally continue to support this store as the quality and service are such that an impression was made... a very good one.
PROS: quality, service
CONS: prices a bit high
Our family tried the Netflix service and were happy to be receiving movies in our mailbox. The convenience of renting movies online is just amazing...
The problem that we had with Netflix is that after our trial period it took over a week on a regular basis for a movie to be exchanged in the mail. Since the facility exchanging the movies for us is only 2 towns over and a very short drive, we found this to be not satisfactory.
We would have continued with this service for the convenience factor, had another one not been available, but lucky us are now members of Blockbuster.com
CONS: delivery time
Peapod is a service for those who are too busy or unable to do their own food shopping for whatever reason.
I went to Peapod.com to check it out after seeing it advertised, and tempted with a $10 off discount, I gave it a shot!
Although the prices are higher than that of the regular store, and the selection is not as varied as I had hoped, I have been very pleased with their service.
As a disabled adult, daily living presents many challenges and Peapod is a service that makes things much easier when it is just not possible to do a grocery trip.
The delivery associates bring the groceries right into my door so that I do not have to leave the house. The cold stuff is cold, the frozen stuff is frozen, and everything comes in good shape and generally with far out expiration dates.
I would encourage others to give this service a try.
My family enjoys being a member of Sams Club.
We had one past complaint having to do with a rude manager regarding them servicing their mobility scooters, however corporate took care of our complaint very quickly and satisfactorily. The store now has working scooters available on a regular basis. Thank you!
The prices of the merchandise are generally below what one would generally find elsewhere. It is important to know the area prices and sale prices to know if the items that are selected are a good deal. Some times area supermarkets and discounts stores can best Sams prices.
The weakest point of the store is that consistantly expired food items are on the shelve to be purchased, and the produce must be looked over carefully for signs of rot.
We recently have noticed a lessening of service at the register. Our last couple of visits have ended up in double charges on our purchases... Thankfully the lovely woman at the door caught an overcharge when checking our receipt and got us to the front of the Customer Service line so that our fresh and frozen goods did not have to wait with us in the long line. Thank you to her! I wish I knew her name... We have a tight budget and her eagle eyes were most appreciated!
We will continue to be a customer of this store, however if another wholesale club opened up in a convenient place for us we would shop for an overall better experience and would consider switching to another club.
PROS: prices, great lady at the door
CONS: expired food for sale
Ordinarilly D'angelo Sandwich Shops are very good. Generally all of them use good quality ingredients and know what they are doing. In fact, my family would rather go to a D'angelos than a Subway.... however...
This particular new shop in Manchester, CT is just lousy.
We tried this shop on 2 seperate occassions, and both were equally unsatisfactory. The quality of the ingredients were mostly good, except for the lettuce core in my salad wrap... but the quantity of the ingredients in the subs or wraps was very poor. In fact, I had never purchase a flat wrap sandwich before... usually it is all filled up with sandwich ingredients!
After the 2nd chance failed, we have struck this establishment off of our list.
CONS: portion quanitity, staff training
I have to tell you that when I noticed a Starbucks opening in our area about a year ago, I was more than pleased!
Having grown up in MA, and become accustomed to good coffee, I was just not satisfied with the hit or miss cups of coffee available at Dunkin Donuts... Plus the staff usually look pretty miserable..
Starbucks has great coffee and great service!
I know that when I want to treat myself and/or my friends and/or family to a coffee that I will get a great cup of coffee each and every time I visit the Starbucks establishment.
PROS: Consistant high quality food and service
CONS: they don't deliver... lmao!
The Walmart Discount store in Manchester, CT has reasonable prices, satisfactory items and services and fair sales assistance from sales associates on the floor.
The one point of Walmart that is in the plus factor is that they supply their mobility impaired customers with free mobility scooters. Their supplying these scooters to their customers shows that they want our business, that we are important.
Unfortunately the front desk staff consistantly place carriages and other items in front of these scooters, making it difficult to impossible for those who need them to access them. I have to have my campanion shopper dig a scooter out for me, as no one seems to care that I cannot reach them...
I guess corporate is bigger on the customer service factor than the store manager... but still, this store does allow me, and others, to actually shop outside of the virtual world.
PROS: free mobility scooters, prices
CONS: customer service
