As a math major, I'm used to a puny and disappointing selection in the math section. Powell's technical has a fantastic selection of texts. And if you're not into math that day, they have a great selection of sale books and various toys in the front of the store. It's a nice location too, on the park blocks. I thought the staff was pleasant, as well.
PROS: Great selection
...but I wouldn't stay there overnight again. The rooms are old, ugly, and the private bathroom we had was very institutional. That said, I will definitely be visiting again. The restaurant is great (we stayed in December and they had carolers going from table to table), and it's fun to see a movie when you can bring your drink in the theater :) (The picture and sound is really crappy though, just to warn you). It's fun to walk around the grounds and visit the different little buildings, too. We ended up buying two bottles of wine to take home with us.
PROS: Fun for an evening
CONS: But not overnight!
We stayed here on our wedding night. The room was beautiful and had a great view of the city, but (and this may be a bit bridezilla of me) we had told them we were coming as newlyweds, and didn't really have that acknowledged. I know, I know, but most service-oriented businesses take special notice of major events like that. Anyway, the bed was everything we had heard it would be, and the bathroom was huge and luxurious. I would definitely go there again.
PROS: Quality surroundings
CONS: A little inattentive
My hubby and I just spent Saturday night here - I wish we could have stayed a week! We had a deluxe river view king - gorgeous view and a fireplace! We relaxed in the sitting room, played Scrabble in the library, and had dinner in the dining room. Sunday morning we had the brunch, which you MUST NOT MISS!!! It's $25 but trust me, it's worth every penny! They also have a pool, hot tub, and you can rent bikes and ride along the river to Stevenson.
PROS: Relaxing, gorgeous setting
We used CAIB for our wedding last summer. Toni is FANTASTIC - she realized we were renting something that was included in our package, and made sure to tell us even though it meant more work and no more money for her. The wait staff ws very professional, and the price was extremely reasonable. They have a number of different buffet packages to choose from, and for each one there is a huge list of selections for entree, appetizer, etc. The next time we have a catered party, we know who to call :)
PROS: Great selection, great staff
We took our used Ford Taurus here for some repairs a few weeks ago. I'm happy that they have a free van service, and friendly employees. I'm not happy that we had to take the car back for something else two weeks later. The prices were pretty reasonable, and they threw in a few things for free. I would go there again.
PROS: Nice people
CONS: Didn't catch everything
I totally agree with the previous poster. I loved the photographer we went with, but the studio itself is really terrible about getting back to you. I don't have my finished album yet (it's over 7 months since our wedding, and they insist we're ahead of schedule), but I have high hopes for a good finished product. They do have a good selection of albums to choose from, and they give you your negatives on DVD with your finished album.
PROS: Good photographers
CONS: Crappy customer service
I went here sortly after moving to the area, for some follow-up tests on a posible case of glaucoma. They did all of the tests my previous opthamologist recommended, and then some. They have an extremely good website, that allows you to send them your insurance info and fill out their forms in advance of your appointment. Overall it was as pleasant as a trip to the eye doctor can be :)
I love Mabel's! I go in, get a latte and pastry, pull out my current project, and while away the afternoon. They have a great selection of yarns that you don't find at Michael's or Joann's, and the staff is SO helpful - you can ask them anything, and they'll help you with whatever project you're working on. Mabel's also has classes for knitting and crocheting.
PROS: Great selection, helpful staff
I went here three times, and will not be back. The first time, a nice stylist gave me a good cut. The second time, she wasn't available so a different stylist gave me an even better cut. The third time, the second stylist totally rushed me through and the cut looked like it - none of the attention to detail she'd shown the first time. I would prefer to find a stylist who is consistent.
PROS: Convenient location
