The Basket Shop is a nice little shop that carries a menagerie of gently used and some new items. The paperback books are generally 10 cents a piece, some a little more. The owner buys books, as I have sold unwanted books to her before. There's jewelry, purses, gently used household items and much more. Her stock changes almost daily. Worth the time to stop and look! You never know what you are going to find.
PROS: Lots to look at.
VIP has great service. Not only do they have Saturday hours, but when you take your items in, you have the option of paying now or later at pickup. If you pay now, you get a 10% discount, if you pay later, you pay full price. The discount is what had me coming back, as generally most dry cleaners are competitively priced. The discount made VIP cheaper. In addition, your items come back when promised, unless you have a special item that needs sent away (like my down feather bed). Even so, it only cost $40 to have it cleaned, which I thought was very reasonable, considering it was a King!
PROS: Great price, take advantage of discount by paying at dropoff!
I have gone to the Get Go many times to grab a lunch when I was out and about running errands. They have fresh sandwiches, as well as snacks such as celery and carrots. They have the usual fare that you would find at a convenience type store, but their prepared food is good tasting and modestly priced compared to chain stores such as Subway. And you really do get and go... I have never had to wait long in line. They zip you right through!
I have shopped this store too many times to mention! Inside you will find a many great gift ideas. The store also has a large collection of the keepsake ornaments, but shop early as this must be well known! I have always been able to find just the right gift. In addition to cards, they have many collectible figurines, frames, and always have the most precious Christmas merchandise. They have a large collection of Yankee Candles and warmers. They know you by name and are always eager to help you with gift ideas when you are stuck!
PROS: Great service, high quality merchandise
I have shopped in this store, which is located in downtown in the historic Boston Store. I have purchased many gifts there, including collectible figurines. For the size of the store, they have a large card section from which to choose that special gift. The service is always friendly and it is brightly lit, even in the dark of winter! They always greet you and ask if they can be of assistance. Great service!
My engagement ring was purchased here. The jeweler chipped a tiny speck of diamond off of it as he was setting it and when we came back to pick it up, he told us about it, expressed his sorrow and even showed us what it did to the diamond, which was barely visible. He could easily have just set it and we would have been none the wiser. Instead, he traded us up to a bigger diamond at a very good rate, not much more than the diamond that we had picked out. Our respect was won instantly and we have always gone back to give him our business. They have a large selection of diamonds and other stones, and many settings from which to choose.
PROS: Honest as the day is long!
I have used TJ Jewelers for buying and or having jewelry fixed over the years. The first item I bought was a class ring. Shortly after buying, the stone cracked. TJs sent it back and it was replaced for free. Later, I had to have a bracelet repaired. He did it while I waited and charged only a modest fee.
PROS: Honest jeweler
This store is great. We bought several religious items there, mainly a very well made, yet modestly priced rosary. They also sell many nice gifts suitable for weddings, baptisms and other religious occasions. I loved the variety of the gifts available which would be suitable for Catholic gift giving. They also had other Christian items, but it is very hard to find a store that caters to Catholics.
PROS: Catholics, shop here!
We found this place by accident, while looking for a non-scary place to board our pet. We had had several disappointing pet boarding experiences. One of my friends suggested her vet, and sure enough, they took boarders! The facilities were clean and they took the dog out several times a day to exercise and go. The price was comparable or a little less than other boarding places, yet the level of cleanliness and service went way beyond. They even gave her a bath before they sent her home! Once, she had an ear infection that they picked up while we were out of town. We didn't get a huge vet bill for that, just a little more than a normal boarding fee would be. They really care about your animals.
PROS: Great place to board your pet!
The library in Colonial Beach is very kid friendly. If they don't have the book there, they are generally able to get it for you within a few days. They even call and e-mail you when it is ready for pickup! My favorite activity is story time. They read books to the kids based on a theme, and then do a craft, followed by a snack. It is a great way for stay at home moms to meet other stay at home moms!
PROS: Kid friendly
CONS: Don't always have the books adults would want to borrow
