Concourse Athletic Club is possibly the nicest fitness center in Atlanta. Here you can see the well of and well built showing off their stuff. The facilities are truly amazing, with the best equipment, the best gym, the best..... I wouldn't even bother applying, however, unless you don't mind spending alot of money. What you get is worth the price, however, from individualized instruction from well trained (and inshape) trainers to making connections with other well-off Atlantans. Located right in the middle of the Concourse Office complex in the heart of the Perimeter, Concourse is the luxurious workout choice.
The Outwrite Bookstore has the largest collection of G&L literature in the southeast. The store has been very popular in Atlanta; even being forced to move to a larger space (with the added benefit of a cozy coffeebar added). The book selection ranges from resource information, to humor, to art books, to best sellers. While I wouldn't say the staff was selected for their intellectual talents, they have always been friendly. Parking is free in the lot outside which is a major plus in downtown. Be sure to check out one of the weekly writer signings.
When I need to get a bargain on a book in Atlanta, I always head to Chapter 11. They have been able to make a local niche in Atlanta and thrive even as the superstores Barnes and Noble and Borders expand. While they don't have the vast selection of the national superstores, they have everyday discounts on best sellers and a club that entitles you to 11% discount on everything they sell, so you always get a good deal. Plus, I don't feel overwhelmed when I am shopping there, and I find the sales help to be more knowledgeable then their larger brethren.
Athletic Club Northeast is a great place to work out and mingle. The membership is relatively young, with alot of singles. Facilities include pools, racquetball, state of the art fitness equipment , tennis (all the basics plus+). The staff has always been very helpful. I often bring my personal trainer along to help push me and he has never had any problem finding the right equipment at ACN for my workout.
What is good about Theater Emory is its reliance not on the current Broadway hits, but on true intellectual productions. A night at theater Emory is about getting yourself to think, to challenge your views and see things sometimes from a different perspective. Tickets are $15. The theater itself is very comfortable and close to the stage. While some may find some of the productions too out there for their taste, I for one, have never been disappointed in both the quality and performance by the ttheir alented cast members. The Theater is located right on the Emory University campus off of North Decatur Rd.
The High Museum of Art is definitely one of the top cultural attractions in Atlanta. Tickets run $10 for adult admission to the permanent collection which has an impressive collection of European and American artwork. I have also had the pleasure of attending some outstanding visiting shows such as the one for Van Gogh and Picasso. I think this is definitely one of the attractions that you don't want to miss. I have never walked away from an exhibition at the High disappointed.
My favorite place to watch a serious art film in Atlanta is the Garden Hills Theatre in Buckhead. While for some, it may be a shock to just have one screen and a small auditorium; for me it brings back memories of school. The setting definitely gets you in the mood for a serious movie. This is a great place to take a date and watch a serious flick that you can discuss the rest of the night, maybe over some wine.
Park'N Ticket is a very conveniently located parking lot next to the Atlanta Airport. The location is at the first intersection outside the airport. I have found the shuttle bus drivers to be speedy and courteous. Unlike other lots, I have never had to wait a long time to be picked up. Also, I have found them to be very speedy in picking me up at the airport. In this day and time, its nice to have things run smoothly as you travel.
I used Sunshine Mortgage to get my first mortgage on my house 4 years ago. They were able to lock me in with a great rate and helped me jump through all of the hoops so that I would have a successful close. I appreciated the time and effort they put through to make sure my first home purchase was successful. It is nice to deal with a local company in person on your first mortgage.
I have used Complete Insurance as my agency for my auto insurance needs for the past 6 years. Mike Moretz has been my agent and I have always found him to be personable. He has done a really good job of working with my insurance company to make sure I have the coverage I need and to take care of any problems. It is nice to know there is someone you can count on that you know when the unexpected happens.
