Wild Card Boxing
The Wild Card Gym is owned by professional boxing trainer, Freddie Roach.
Mr. Roach trains such boxing greats James Toney, Manny Pacquiao, and others.
While this is a professional boxing gym, it does open itself to individuals who would like to learn the sweetest of sciences.
If you are a looking to workout, the no nonsense tone of the gym is excellent. Many boxing stars and movie stars work out here, but are not bothered due to the professional atmosphere.
This is not Ballys or 24 Hour Fitness, this is a boxing gym.
PROS: A World Class Professional Boxing Gym
CONS: NONE
El Zorro Market
This small Latin American Markey has a great selection of products from Latin America.
What makes it my favorite is they carry many traditional Cuban products and groceries.
Their selection of Latin vegetables and fruits is super.
Also , give there meat market a try, they have wonderful cuts of meats.
As with most Latin markets, the prices are not cheap.
Do not be intimidated by the local characters that hang-out in the parking lot, they do not bite.
PROS: Great stock of Latin groceries and Cuban flavored products
CONS: Parking and the neighborhood.
Noisy Toys Drums & Percussion
If you are a hand drummer - of any level, from beginning to expert - you want to visit Noisy Toys.
I am not sure if there is another store in Southern California, or all of California, that specializes in hand drums.
They have a large selection of congas, bongos, djembes, etc..
If you beat it with your hands, they have it.
The prices here are not as cheap as a large chain store (I.E. Guitar center) , or as can be find on internet web sites, but this is a mom and pop shop worth supporting.
The owner is very friendly and if he does not have it, he can order it for you!
PROS: Large selection of drums, speciality items, and friendly service.
CONS: Prices are cheaper elsewhere.
Nelson Lisa a MD
Dr. Gottlieb is a wonderful doctor.
Dealing with cancer patients day afterday could get to anyone. But Dr. Gottlieb always interjects humor and fun into a very serious situation.
His bedside manner will remind you of Patch Adams.
The office is always clean and the office staff is great.
Be warned if you do not want an injection of humor for your cancer treatment, this doctor might not be for you!
PROS: A great doctor with wonderful bedside manner.
CONS: Be warned, he is a comical man.
Alice G. Goldin, MD
When my wife was carrying our first child, we visited Dr. Alice Goldin.
When you meet with this wonderful woman, you will forget that we live in the era of HMOs and rushed medical service.
Before you even have your child, this doctor sits with you and discusses any and all issues and concerns you might have.
When you have your child, this woman is accessible every day. When our child has been sick, she or one of the other wonderful doctors at her office, have been able to accomodate us into their busy schedule.
A great place to take your kids.
PROS: WONDERUL SERVICE AND PERSONAL ATTENTION
CONS: NONE!
Carniceria Los Tapatios
If you want an authentic mexican style meat market, this is it.
Great cuts of meat at affordable prices.
If you ever want to BBQ, Mexican style, get the prepared Carne Asade. With its wonderful home-made marinade, all you got to do is throw it on the grill.
If you need refried beans, or other sides, just get them prepared, right at the meat market.
Do remember, this is in Lennox. the neighborhood might be a bit shabby for some, but I have lived in the area for over 20 years, do not be scared to stop by and taste the flavors of Mexico.
PROS: Great Meat, raw or prepared!
CONS: The neighborhood might not be to some peoples liking.
Damian's Barber Shop
I have been going to cut my hair at Damian's, from time to time, for well over 15 years.
It is your typical neighborhood barbershop, with about 7-8 barbers at any given time.
Over the years, I am a man, I have tried a few of the different barber's and I cannot complain about the quality of the haircut.
Outside of the barbershop, there is ample parking and the neighborhood is safe.
May I mention, most men's haircuts run a mere $10.oo
PROS: Value-priced, lots of parking
CONS: Does get busy on weekends and late afternoons.
The Medical Centre Pharmacy
No problems at the Medical Centre Pharmacy.
The staff is not overly friendly, the prices are not incredibly cheap. Yet, the do an excellent job at filling out your orders and working with your insurance company.
PROS: Professional Service.
CONS: A Cold Staff.
Noel's Beauty Salon
Wonderful place to get your hair cut, that goes for guys as well.
The staff at Noel's all do fantastic work. My family and I have all tried several of the staff for haircuts and we are always satisfied with their great work.
Value priced, as well!
PROS: Great Haircuts!
CONS: The neighborhood may be rough for some.
Pepes Beauty Salon
This local beauty salon should be avoided at all cost.
The main barber/stylist, loves to talk about politics, music, and anything. This compromised the quality of your haircut.
Trust me, while it may be cheap. Stay away!
PROS: Low prices.
CONS: Poor quality service.
