They have recently built a new church, with beautiful stained glass windows that make mass even more solemn and reflective. Services are seven days a week, with two days for confession. A grotto just outside the chapel is a quiet place to pray and meditate. This church also holds an annual Bazaar which attracts all of Pearland with it's awesome food, entertaining games, and auction as well as raffle. Every year they give one lucky family a new car. Their St Vincent de Paul Society also services the needy with a food pantry and contributions towards bills such as rent, electricity, medicine, etc.
PROS: Beautiful church conveniently located; full services to all
CONS: Parking is limited. Many parishioners have to park nearby and walk
This store is open 6 days a week, providing a full variety of items at a price that is easy on the wallet. From clothing, to furniture, books, appliances, and even art, they have it all! Wedsnesday they offer 50% all clothing. Be sure to get there early for the choicest pickings. All other days they offer 50% off on certain color coded tags (whether green, white, yellow, or blue). Check out the unannounced sales marked on the front door as you enter. Sometimes you can pick up furniture for 20% off (or more, as the manager is always happy to negotiate a price.... Everything must go, and a large portion of the proceeds go to support a good cause...) It doesn't get better than this!
PROS: Great deals on clothing and more; open 6 days a week; price negotiable
CONS: Parking lot is in strip center and sometimes full; not enough registers
This charitable organization has been a Godsend when times have been hard. They run a full-service food pantry, as well as offer financial assistance to families who can't pay their electricity, water, gas, rent, or for their prescriptions. If you have other needs, they usually can refer you to another organization that can assist you. Their maximum contribution is food one time per month (up to 12 donations a year), or one bill a year up to $50.
PROS: Provides assistance to the needy, whether it be food or bills.
CONS: Only open 3 days a week; sometimes they run out of funds and only have food
Their clean facility, attentive service, tanning packages at various prices for every budget, and private rooms will keep me coming back... They offer many variety of tanning beds to choose from including one like a Hollywood Shower where you can stand up and be sprayed all over your body with self-tanner for an all-over, even tan. Bring in your own protective lenses. They don't provide free ones (you can purchase a sticker one that's for one use for $1 or plastic ones from $6.95). I recommend bringing in your own tanning lotion. The ones on-site all are cool-sounding and may even be effective....(The "tingling" variety I purchased left me beet red all over my body and burned for almost 3 hours afterwards, although the effects were not permenant) are overpriced (as much as $50 for a large one, and $6 for a small one).
PROS: Three free tans; convenient location; competitive pricing; lots of beds
CONS: Haven't seen a female employee on premise; tanning merchandise overpriced
This local pharmacy is owned by a woman who used to work for a national chain pharmacy. She opened this pharmacy and carved out her own niche locally offering services that national chains do not. Compounding of prescriptions is done on site and delivery service is offered for a small charge. She also has a post office with quick service for those who don't want to stand in line at the overcrowded post office in town. She also offers masectomy products as well as rents home health products for those who are home-bound.
PROS: Small local pharmacy with personalized services that fill a niche
CONS: Small rx inventory; pricing may be higher than national chains
This gas station is located a few blocks from the Beltway, just inside the Pearland city limit. Their gas prices are competitive, and usually set the standard for other local gas stations. They have a lot of pumps and have the "pay-at-the-pump" option for those in a hurry. They are open 24 hours, although the convenience store is not accessible late night (the clerk inside can take payment through a security window). They have an on-premise ATM and sell beer/cigarettes as well as food items.
PROS: Competitive pricing on gas, 30 or so pumps, pay at the pump option
CONS: Customer service is sometimes lacking; sometimes lines at the register
I've lived in this apartment complex for almost seven years. It has a great location in "old" Pearland (close to Pearland Parkway, Randalls, Krogers, Blockbuster Video, Hollywood, Lowe's, and many restaurants). I can walk to everything I need from my apartment, but if I need to drive the Beltway is minutes away. The management team is awesome (Leza and Angela). Their community offers a park, two pools, two laundry and mail rooms, as well as a basketball and tennis court. Access gates offer a sense of security as well.
PROS: Access gates, convenient location, and friendly management.
CONS: Hard to pull out of neighborhood street with heavy traffic; limited parking
This store recently closed, but will re-open at a new location on Cullen Blvd next door to the new post office in about a month with a new owner (who used to be an employee, but bought out the business with her family). She always provides service with a smile and offers a competitive selection to Blockbuster and Hollywood Video. She offers coupons in local publications and sells used DVD's 3 for $20....a great deal as she keeps the original inserts and boxes for those of us who collect movies. I love this store!
PROS: Family-run, personalized service with a smile. Competitive prices.
CONS: Only carries two of each movie that is not a new release.
This family-run liquor store is located just outside Pearland city limits on Cullen Blvd, a block away from Beltway 8. They are clean and well-organized. Customer service is helpful and friendly. They are smaller than some businesses of this type, but have a good selection and competitive prices. They also sell art and drinking accessories. Coolers in the back provide a variety of chilled wines, beers, and spirits for those on the way to a party or function.
PROS: Clean store, convenient location, and service with a smile.
CONS: Parking in strip center is limited; store aisles are smaller than some.
This family-run business offers a wide variety of liquor, beer, and wines as well as mixers. You can also buy cigarettes, cash checks for a fee, or obtain a money order (no charge). Service is almost always helpful and friendly. For your convenience, they do have a drive-thru window.
PROS: Drive-thru window, competitive prices, and free money orders.
CONS: Not as well organized or as clean as some; located in high crime area.
