Georgias Stone Mountain Park
This park is great year round. During the summer, they have the laser show, with the fireworks as the grand finale. This is a great family activity or a great date! Little kids love this laser show that they choreograph to music. You can make a whole day of it- go early and climb the mountain, bring your suit and go swimming, rent a canoe and paddle around the lake and ride the cable car up the mountain for some great views. They often have events going on- so check the calendar.
Chapel Hill Wine Co
Chapel Hill Wine Company is a great little spot located off of Airport in Chapel Hill. I can always rely on the staff for recommendations to make my wine selections easy. They offer a great selection, friendly service and excellent value. Whether you are looking for a nice wine or just a regular bottle- you will be pleased with this wine store. I would recommend this to anyone looking for some advice from a true wine connoisseur. Lately, my friends have been hosting wine parties, and this allows me to pick good wines for sharing!
Town of Chapel Hill - Public Library
Everyone that works in the Chapel Hill Public Library is very friendly and helpful. The building is clean and organized, and there is plenty of parking. I was not impressed with the selection of new best sellers or audiobooks. Also, if you live in Durham county, which is right down the road, they will not let you get a library card. They have several computer stations for checking email.
Club Nova Thrift Shop
Club Nova is located in funky Carrboro. Although the store is quite small and there is not too much to choose from, it is still fun to stop in and see if there are any treasures that you need! They carry nick-nacks and clothing, no furniture. Parking can be tricky- best to just park anywhere and walk to all of the fun shops in Carrboro.
Piedmont Park Conservancy
What a great place to spend a nice afternoon in downtown Atlanta! You can bring your dog and have a nice picnic and people-watch! There are trails to run as well. Parking can be tricky as you just have to park anywhere you can find a spot. They also have some theater events that go on in the spring. There are a few special event facilities if you are looking to host a wedding or corporate party. Every spring they have the Dogwood festival- tons of food, crafts, and music. This is a great place to check out if you live in the area or are just visiting. Be sure to check out Park Tavern located in the park and grab a drink while you overlook the Atlanta skyline!
Fernbank Museum
This is such a neat place, in a really cool part of Atlanta. Whether you want to take a group of children on a field trip or go on a date on a Friday night- there is something for everyone. The lobby holds a huge skeleton of a dinosaur and it really makes an awesome statement when you walk in. I have visited this museum several times for Martinis and I-MAX- so cool! Great date- get a martini, watch a cool IMAX movie and then hit a restaurant- very unique! Located down by Emory, it is a great date place. They host special events here as well- would be a unique setting for a wedding or corporate party. Check this place out- You will be happy you did!
Blue Genes INC
If you are looking for designer jeans in Atlanta- this is THE spot to check out! They carry all of the designer labels and the staff can recommend what would be a good choice for you. They carry women's and mens as well. Located right next to Lenox Mall, it is easy to stop in while shopping in Buckhead. I have always been pleased when I go in- be ready to drop at least $100 on a pair.
Salon Red
I just love downtown Decatur- it is such a fun place to hang out. That is one reason I have been very pleased with my visits to Salon Red. Located on the square in downtown Decatur, I have been to Salon Red for hair cuts and highlights. Although it is not my all-time favorite salon, the hair dressers are friendly and give you what you ask for. It is a bit on the funky side, but everyone is friendly. The best? They have the most comfy sink to rinse out your hair after coloring! I also went here with a bridal party to get hair and makeup done for a wedding.
World Of Coca Cola
The World of Coca- Cola is a dream for small children. We always took my cousins here when they visited us. The museum has many different areas about the history of our favorite cola. The best part about the museum is the coke fountains. This is where they have many different flavors of Coca-Cola throughout the nation. It is fun to try different flavors, and they also have an area where it looks like coke is getting spouted through the air.
Sugar Mountain Ski Area/Sports
Although skiing in North Carolina can not be compared to out west, for anyone looking for a nice day trip and inexpensive skiing, Sugar Mountain Resort is a great place to ski. Some days are more crowded than others, and sometimes the conditions are bad. But if you can time it right with a fresh snow on the ground, you will be delighted at the ease. They have many greens and blues, and even a few for those experienced skiiers. You can rent equipment on site, and they offer tubing as well as snowboarding.
