I've been to the Bancroft Hotel a couple of times for information sessions and social events. The hotel has a great location across the street from campus and next door to Cafe Strada. The hotel itself is very clean and the employees are very nice and willing to help you with whatever you need. The food at the sessions is ok, it could be better, but it's definitely not bad. The event room is pretty large so you never have to deal with bumping in to people.
In general this place is well received, that's why it seems like all off campus recruiting events are held here. Everyone should check it out.
The store is great for buying new and used media. They sell everything from music to dvds and posters. I've never went to Rasputin and not found what I was looking for. While I've noticed they're prices are a bit higher than Best Buy and Amazon, I think it's good to support the little guy. The location is good because it's on Telegraph, which makes it a great time killer if you're in between classes and you don't want to goto the library. One downside though is the parking. Finding parking is not easy, so I would recommend taking the bus. Plus with it's location close to Amoeba you can go one a musical shopping spree.
I'll start off by saying that I like this place way more than Copy Central. I like this place more simply because they are cheaper and because they're much faster than Copy Central. Someone already mentioned this, but the main reason I like University Copy is because they don't have the ridiculous lines that Copy Central does at the beginning of each semester. On top of that the prices do seem to be better here than at any other place that sells readers. The employees are ok, they're not the nicest people, but I guess it's hard to be when you have to deal with college students all day.
This place is about average compared to other shops in the area. I went to Noe Valley last year when my Accord was having issues braking without sputtering. It took them a couple of days but they fixed my car. The cost was about average when compared to the estimates that I got from a couple of other body shops. I decided to goto Noe Valley because I had heard of their great service. While they were nice, the service was the same as what I've gotten at other body shops and I wouldn't call it exceptional.
Overall, I wasn't super impressed like some of the other reviewers, but I would go there again.
I stayed at the hotel while on business in San Jose. The location is great because it near everything in SJ(HP Center, SJ State, and the business district). The hotel itself is not very large which makes it seem more friendly to guests. The room I slept in was very clean and well furnished. The bed was also super comfortable. The greatest feature was the "raid our pantry" area. The hotel actually has an area where guests can make themselves sandwiches if they're hungry at night.
The one thing that was annoying to me, but I guess was not totally their fault, is the parking. Since it's in downtown parking is a major hassle. They do offer valet parking but at a fee.
This bookstore has a great niche in Berkeley. As mentioned in the other reviews, this bookstore concentrates on Asian literature. At no other store will you find this many Asian books outside of SF. I've purchased Chinese and Korean novels from here. The owners are very friendly and are more than willing to help you find what you're looking for. The prices aren't to bad either, considering that a lot of the books are very hard to find. Their location on University makes it easy to get to, by bus or car. I recommend everyone with an interest in Asian literature check this place out and support the owners.
I went in to Pets Are Us once and concluded it would be the last. The cashier was absolutely horrible. I asked for some help locating rabbit food and after rolling her eyes at me told me were it was. Then when I paid for the food, the cashier gave me the wrong change and when I asked her to correct it she proceeded to look at me in a dumbfounded way. The experience was horrible and I will never shop there again.
Pretty much if you goto Cal, you make at least one visit to Copy Central a semester. Because it seems like the whole school has to buy a reader from Copy Central, the lines can get very very long. One way I've found to get around it though is to take advantage of their long business hours. There are virtually no lines if you go at 10pm instead of 2pm. The other annoying thing is the no refund policy. I've personally never needed to return a reader but I've heard of people who get stuck with their unwanted readers. Their prices also do seem a bit high but there's not much you can do about it because they have a monopoly on the reader market.
I've been to this place a couple times to get my hair cut. What attracted me to the place is that it's cheap! Compared to hair places on University and College this is way cheaper! It's location on Telegraph makes it the perfect place for Cal students who don't have much time. I usually go there after class because it's on the way home.
As mentioned before this place knows how to cut "asian" hair. Everytime I've been here I've been very happy with the cut. Check it out!
Last month, while on vacation in LA, we got a flat tire. We found this place after hearing the recommendation of a friend who had been there before and was very satisfied. The salesman was very nice and before offering to sell us a new tire, offered to put the spare on, at no charge, so that we could drive back to our home(San Francisco) and change it there. Instead though, we decided to play it safe and change the tire there.
The price for the tire and installation was very reasonable. They also changed the tire very quickly. Overall, I was impressed by the shops kindness, speed, and price. I would recommend this place to anyone who asks.
PROS: Nice, Fast, Cheap
