This place is like a haven for people looking for Asian groceries. They have lots of ethnic Korean food that you won't find anywhere outside of the Korean markets of L.A. A lot of my friends come here just because the selection they have is hard to get anywhere else. The selection of fish rivals anything "american" stores have to offer. All the fish is fresh and cut and prepared however you ask. Also in the store is a deli where you can find Korean and other Asian foods freshly prepared. This place rocks if you're in need of some hard to find Korean groceries!
PROS: has many hard to find things
Telegraph Avenue Flowers definetly has the best flowers near campus. It is a lot better than the place next to Avant Card on Bancroft. I've gone here twice, both times looking for gifts for my girlfriend. The woman who works there is super nice and helpful. Both times she asked me if I was looking for something specific. When I told her no she recommended flowers based on my girlfriends personality and the occasion. The flowers were also prepared very nicely. When I gave the flowers to my girlfriend, she was estaticly happy. The prices are also very good. Anytime I need flowers, I'll be sure to go back.
This place definetly has a big selection of music to choose from. It ranges from Indie rock bands to underground rappers. This particular location is located in the heart of Telegraph, so it's dirty yet close to UCB. If you don't like homeless people I wouldn't recommend shopping here, because Telegraph does have a lot of homeless. The prices are about average, they aren't as cheap as amazon or target but a lot of their selection you will have a hard time finding anywhere else. This is the perfect place to find a hard to find CD or record. If you ever have time to kill in between classes you should check it out.
My girlfriend drags me in to the store every once in a while. The store itself is pretty small so all the shelves and walls are jam packed with Asian items. They sell mostly little things, like pencils, pens, notebooks, clocks, etc. that have famous Asian things of them. If you like Pucca or Hello Kitty, this store is for you. As a guy, this store has nothing for me. It's really focused towards girls. Unless you're buying a gift for a girl, guys don't really have any reason to shop there. I am amazed by the variety of things they do have though. It seems like every single product ever made with Pucca on it is in the store. The people who work there are always nice to me, so i can't really complain that much, even though there isn't much there for me.
PROS: Huge selection
CONS: not for guys
I've been to Boardwalk Bowl on many occasions. They have a good relationship with student organizations at UCSC, so many studend events are held at Boardwalk Bowl. The prices are reasonable. Usually, they have some great specials if you're willing to go in the mornings. The location is great because when you're done bowling there are lots of places near that you can go, such as, the big arcade, or the many restaurants in the area. The size of the bowling alley is about average, it's not huge but it's not tiny either. It's very student friendly. Everytime I go, I usually recognize some people from campus there. If you're ever bored I recommend this place!
PROS: student friendly, location
I went to Cellular Gopher with a friend looking for a new cellphone. At first, the salesman was very nice and seemed like an honest guy. The prices they offer were reasonable for an "asian" store. The selection of phones they had was also pretty good. But what happened was the salesman lied to my friend about a phones specifications. He told her that the phone he convinced her to get had bluetooth and had a megapixel camera. When my friend got home and researched it, she found out he had lied to her. When she returned to the store for a refund, the salesman didn't believe her claims and tried to tell her she was wrong. But after going online and finding out that he was wrong the salesman agreed to let her return my friends phone. The problem with that was that he stil wanted to charge her for the sim cards, even though he lied about the phone specs. My friend and the salesman argued for about 40 minutes before my friend was able to get a full refund for her purchase. I would advise people to be very carefull when dealing with the store.
CONS: be careful
I've only been there once but I have friends who bowl there on a regular basis. What makes Serra Bowl so great is that it's huge and it's 24hrs. The time I went, we went from 12-2AM. The place is very lively and has a everything you want in a bowling alley. They have a bar/restaurant, some video games, vending machines, and a lot of alleys. The down side about Serra Bowl is the price. Compared to the other alleys in the area, Serra is the most expensive. But overall, I would say that it is worth it, since it is the best bowling place in the bay area.
PROS: 24hrs, has everything
I'll start off by saying what really annoys me about the store. You have to check your backpack at the door. I know other stores in the area do it to, but it's really annoying that they make you take your backpack off before they let you enter. Besides that, they're a good store. The selection is really good. Everything from Cal shirts, pants, shorts, hats, stickers, sweatshirts, banners, and everything else you can think of can be found here. The prices are about the same as the other stores in the area. They also sell alot of other things besides Cal apparel that makes this store worth shopping if you're looking for non-cal clothes.
PROS: good selection, location
CONS: backpack policy
I've gone there a couple of times when looking for birthday cards. The location is great if you goto UC Berkeley, because it's right across the street from campus. That's the reason I originally went. The store itself is pretty small, but they don't make it feel cramped at all. The walls are all black, making the store have a really dark feeling. The selection is pretty good, they have cards for pretty much every occasion(birthdays, get well, etc.) The thing I really like about them is their workers. They always smile and greet you as you enter, and you get the feeling they're not being fake about it. Overall, it's a great place to go for cards. I highly recommend it.
PROS: location, workers are nice, good selection
CONS: store is kinda small and dark
I hired Grampp Landscape last year to do the garden by my condo. The prices were competitive with the other estimates that I got. I had a watering system, small bushes, and grass put into my land. The job was done quickly and very well. I had no idea what I wanted to put on the land and they came up with the whole idea, the look, etc. It was excellent. Whenever people come over I get comments on my grass. About a month after the grass was installed, I got a call from Grampp to make sure that everything was going good. I recommend them to everyone.
