In small parking lot next to a ROSS is the business Hookah Source. There is a cool room with chairs, benches, pool tables and funky stools. You buy flavors of tabacco and they bring you a hookah. There are screens on the wall which plays movies you can't here. Most nights there is a DJ and the music is really loud. But it's a really cool place, the crowd is very diverse and you'll often see people break dancing. One of the touches I really enjoy is there are games to play at every table. It's a really cool place to just hang out with friends but you have to shout if you want to talk.
This is a really big swap meet and you should come with a few hours to spare. The admission is cheap and hours worth of entertainment! The event is held in a high school parking lot and has so many different things to buy from food to furniture. If you look hard enough you can find some very interesting things. Parking is difficult but not impossible, just show up earlier.
The people at this business were very helpful and polite even though I broke my appointment with them several times. The man who examined my car was friendly, quick and complete in his work. Within half an hour I was being handed my papers and walking out the door. The location is also cool because they offer free juices and sodas as well as an internet connection incase you need to sign online. This was a very professional business that I highly recommend.
As much as I love this venue I most start off with a warning. The traffic around the Hollywood bowl is miserable. The best bet is to take the metro link to Hollywood and Highland and hike the rest of the way. Otherwise youll either pay a lot for valet parking or be stuck in traffic for an hour. Otherwise the amphitheater is beautiful! You have a stunning view of the hills around and the fresh night air. You get to watch the sun set. The benches are made of wood and not the most comfortable in the world but the experience is totally worth it.
Skylight is a unique. Located in Los Feliz it has a great selection of books and a very comfortable, cozy vibe. Skylight is known for having authors reading in the store every month. It is a good place to find what youre looking for, get it signed by the author then sit down and read it. Definitely worth a visit.
This college used to be the old UCLA campus at one point and even though it it's in the best area it has good teachers, a metrolink stop, freeway access as well as day and night classes. The school has it quirks, like it used to have a stadium but they paved over the grass to make a parking lot for the teachers. But the film program is outstanding and worth the price.
There is nothing extra special about this swap meet but it is fun to go through. They charge a couple of dollars for parking and you can roam around for a few hours. Youd be surprised at how many things they can fit in a parking lot. Expect to get dirty and if you invest the time youll most likely find what youre looking for or something even better.
PROS: A lot of stuff to go through
This old restored theatre is a beautiful place to enjoy a concert. The facilities are clean, well kept and they feel safe. The venue may be small but you hardly notice and there is no way youll be in the nosebleed section because there is no nosebleed section. There are a lot of different bands that play so you can always catch a different act and afterwards there are some restaurants within walking distance.
The first time I encountered this unique little business was a premiere showing of The Flaming Lips DVD with the band talking about the DVD afterwards. Every night there could be something different there! From the street all you see is a small door way, you enter then climb stairs into a bar/lounge area. Its very trendy with decorations of TVs in the wall and a small little theatre area with a bar in the back. Towards the front of the club there are booths facing TVs so you can eat while you watch a movie and big windows open to the street so you can actually smoke indoors. A really cool club in a good location and worth checking out!
PROS: Cool, cheap, variety
CONS: Over 18 and 21and older stamped for the bar
Roller Towne is an inexpensive way to have fun. You rent rollarblades or skates and hang out for a "session". A session is usually a couple of hours and they have them at different times during the week and weekend. You can catch really good deals like all night skate that last for six or seven hours for only a few dollars. There is a snack bar and music blasts while you skate around a rink. There is also a party room for special events and good security. The bathrooms are dirty but it is a small price to pay for the small price you pay.
