I have grown up in Monterey Park, and the sanitary standards here are much lower than that of other higher class locales, i am sure. However, Hawaii Super Market is a whole new story. Not only have i seen dirty hands handling the produce, the keeping conditions are poor. The dirtiness was verified when outbreaks of SARS was found from a frequent user of this market. I, myself, do not trust this place and would not recommend it to anyone else. There are other places that are cleaner and offer competitive prices, and sometimes even better products. Better safe than sorry!
Daiyu is a great place to find many Japanese products. Japanese are not only known for their creative products, but also their cute and eye-catching packages. The products here are usually on the expensive side, so if you're looking for dirt cheap things, you are better off at a dollar store. However, i usually come here to get my shower scrub towel. I don't like the puffy balls because it's small, so i like the towel. It works well and you can get it for 3 or 4 bucks. It lasts a long time, but I usually replace it every 6 months. I highly recommend it.
I've never been to a chiropracter before, but I was having some lower back problems, so i thought i'd give it a try. The pain wasn't unbearable, but my health is not something i like to risk. Going to see Dr. Smith, he seemed to be very knowledgable about the practice and traditional and more current remedies. His analysis was very thorough and helpful in curing my back problems. I can't really compare him to other doctors, because i've never been to a chiropracter before. But i never thought it would be as expensive as it was to see one. I probably would do more price shopping/comparison next time i decide to see a doctor. However, you do get what you pay for.
I've been having plumbing problems in my bathroom for the past month or so. Trying to fix it myself, i actually ended up making it worse. I finally gave in to call a professional and found them in the phone book. They seemed like a good place. I called and got a quote and they quickly responded to my call. In a matter of 30 minutes, they were already knocking on my door. And in a matter of an hour or two, they were completely done. Although the final cost ended up being more than the quote (and expensive overall), they did get the job done in a timely manner. Very professional as well.
I always pass this store and notice their large discount furniture banner hanging from their roof. So one day i decided to go in to see what kind of stuff they carry there. Everything is just okay there. Their selection is okay. Their prices are okay. Their customer service is okay. Their lighting is okay. I wasn't won over to purchase anything, but I also wasn't pushed away in thinking i'd never return. If i decide on a specific furniture I need, I may return to take another look. The also aren't open long hours, so make sure you call before you come.
being that I am of vietnamese and chinese decent, Van Bakery is heaven to me. This place has an array of pastries and sweets that I grew up on. Creating a sense of nostalgia for me, I tend to go to the bakery at least once a week. It's a great place to grab a snack or breakfast even. I would recommend the puff pastries. For newbies, I would be cautious of any of the meat pastries. it can be stranger for those who do not normally eat the sweet/saviory mix.
Tina's Dry Cleaners does a wonderful job on delicate clothings. I have to dress up a lot for work, and end up buying a lot of 'dry-clean-only' clothes. I have been going to Tina's for a while and their work is consistantly good. Their workers are very hospitable and helpful. They are always timely with their cleaning, and some times even finish sooner than expected. Their prices are okay.
i took my younger cousin here for 6months and it seemed like a wonderful place for children to come and grow. The pre-school itself is not very big, but that can be a good thing. The staff/faculty to student ratio is just right. The students get a lot of attention which allows them to ask questions and feel important. The activities the staff goes through, even during play time, are geared towards developing their thinking, motor, and social skills.
My best friend is starting her second year at Otis--as a fashion major. Being ranked with top honors in fashion in the US, the school has been living up to my best friend's expectations. Her mother has her own fashion line, so my best friend's standards are pretty high. Otis has met and exceeded her expectations by having wonderful teachers and a productive learning circulum. Being located in the heart of downtown los angeles, the fashion students are exposed to various fashion trends and resources that allows them to fully explore their own creative yearnings. Having a great foundation, the students seem to always excel during and after college.
G.W. Fish and Poultry is a great place to get some fresh fish and poultry. Whenever i'm around that area, I always stop by and decide what i would like to make for dinner based on what looks good. It has a great selection of poultry and fish, ranging from american chicken to black chickens (which my grandmother uses in her herbal medicine many times). The price is cheap for the quality you get. The only problem is the dirty environment and smell. If you are able to get pass that, then you have a great place to get your food.
