I went to this store to have my computer checked out when I first moved to Madison, and they were able to figure out that one of my processor's pins had been bent slightly out of shape. They only charged $35 for this service, which I thought was more than a reasonable price.
This theater shows movies that are even more indie than those found at Westgate cinema, but its main attraction is its periodic showing of the Rocky Horror picture show. The seating here, quite frankly, sucks, and the sound quality leaves something to be desired, but if you've decided to spend an evening at the Orpheum you probably don't care about such trivialities, anyways!
The Nutrition outlet offers a good selection of nutritional supplements at a fair price. Most of their selection is priced well below what GNC, located at West Towne mall across the street, would charge. They offer deals for student athletes; for example, if you show proof you are one, you can purchase a 5 lb tub of whey for $22, which isn't a bad deal at all. The staff is somewhat helpful; you won't find much in the way of literature or advice if you shop here, but when it comes to prices they can't be beat.
I came to play indoor soccer at break away sports, and was thoroughly disappointed by the refereeing. The officials try to maintain a safe competitive environment, but do so by calling fouls on anything that remotely borders physical play. Seriously, I've seen more physical games of patty-cake than I have soccer matches at break away. Unfortunately, this problem is compounded by the fact that the officials will rudely and constantly get in your face if you do vent your frustrations, even in an inoffensive manner.
Fontana's offers a pretty good selection of things you'd need if you wanted to enjoy trapising around the outdoors. They aren't a large store; you aren't going to find the selection you would at, say, an REI, but this isn't a bad place to go if you're looking for boot wax or such staples. I do have to say, though, that they charge a little more than I'm used to paying for such things. The sales staff here is very helpful.
Riley's has a really great selection of nearly anything and everything you would want to drink. Seriously, I haven't seen a store as well-stocked as this one in ages. The prices aren't too bad, either; you're not going to pay duty-free or Sam's Club pricing, but you're not getting ripped off, not by any stretch of the imagination. The staff tends to be fairly knowledgeable, although sometimes you do get helped by a stiff who doesn't know what he's talking about.
The selection here is pretty good, not top-notch but more than acceptible. You aren't going to find anything ultra-rare in the store, but if you are looking to pick up a beer, or a bottle of something for cocktails, this would be a good place to do so. The staff here tends to be fairly friendly and helpful, and there usually isn't as long of a line here as, say, Riley's. The prices here aren't too bad, either.
How many laundromats can claim to have a bar built into the facility? This is the first such place I've ever come across, and I've travelled to many places across the United States. You pay a little more than you would at most other laundromats in order to do your laundry here, but they usually have someone behind the bar serving beer at all hours, so as a result, it's a lot easier to kill time while waiting for your load to finish.
As the title of this review states, the service at this dry cleaners is good - they do an exceptional job getting the stains out of even the most heavily-stained garments - but you do pay for that kind of service. Coming from someone used to paying $2 per item in California, it was a nasty shock to receive a $35 dry cleaning bill for several pairs of pants.
When I first moved out to Madison, I stayed at Extended Stay for a few days. Although the room wasn't very expensive and the service staff friendly, the bedding was rock hard and the kitchen equipment they provided was nearly worthless. Depending on what you are looking for in terms of short-term lodging, the benefits might outweigh the cons for this place.
