Dandy Lion Designs sells children's clothes, mostly for young kids. I have taken my daughter here a couple times while visiting her grandparents who live around the store. The clothes are not bad, they are pretty average. The prices are a bit high, but not so high I wouldn't go there. I let my daughter pick out her own clothes, since she has to wear them, and she did seem to like the clothes here. I would go back here again, and the employees in the store have always been very friendly to us. So I would say this is a pretty good store to go to if you are in the area.
Oranges And Lemons is a good store to go to if you want some great play clothes for your kids. I have gone there several times with my daughter, and she always finds lots of clothes she likes. I prefer to let my daughter pick out her own clothes to buy, since she has to wear them, and she really likes the clothes here. The prices are fair, but not too cheap. It is an idependent store, not a big chain, so they don't really have any good sales, but the prices are still ok. The people that work in Oranges And Lemons have always been friendly to me and so I have no problem recommending them. This is a good store to bring your kids shopping with you.
Baby Bee sells clothes for babies and toddlers. The clothes they sell are more like dress clothes, instead of play clothes. The prices are not too high, but the clothes are not too great either. They are not too bad. They have a lot of different stuff in the store to browse, like shirts, pants, shoes, hats, and dresses. I don't think they have stuff like jeans and play shirts, but if you are going to dress your kids up for something like pictures or church, you will probably find what you need at the Baby Bee store.
Located in Wilmington, right by Chuck E Cheese, you will find the independly run Hansel & Gretel clothes store for kids. The store is small, cluttered and overly priced. The clothes are different then you'd find at a walmart, but I'm not sure that this is always a good thing. I went shopping there with my daughter, and the clothes are mostly just silly looking. She needed some dress clothes, but besides on special occasions, I can't figure out why people would dress their kids in these clothes. And they are about triple the prices that you'd find in a walmart. Of course, there are a lot of people that enjoy dressing their kids in silly clothes because they think it looks cute, but I don't really think I'll ever be going back there. I shopped there twice and that is about as much as I can take of this store.
The Swim Shop sells children's beach clothes, such as swimsuits, shorts, etc. While some of the clothes are not too bad, they are way too expensive. Since it is a specialty store, you will end up paying more here for a swimsuit then you'd pay at a Macy's store. I do prefer shopping at small independent stores more often then I like shopping at the mall, but when a store like this overcharges by so much, and then says they have to do it because they are a small store, I do not feel any sympathy for them. If you do not mind paying $65 for a swimsuit, then you might find clothes at the Swim Shop that are different then you'd find at a mall. But because of the super high prices, I personally can not afford to shop here too much, nor can I recommend it to others.
Once Upon A Child is basically a thrift store for kids. By thrift store, I mean they sell used clothes, toys, and random junk. They also buy stuff, instead of just taking donations. Well I thought, I'll take my daughter there, bring some of her old clothes that no longer fit her and sell them, then use the money to buy her new clothes. But it didn't work like that. I brought about 12 shirts, maybe 5 pairs of pants, a couple dresses, stuff like that. They looked at them and offered me $5 for everything. I asked if instead I could make a trade or get some more money on store credit instead of getting cash, but they said no. The clothes they sell are over priced too. Like $5 for one shirt, but they are all used and not in good condition. I figured she could have some cheap clothes to wear as play clothes outside, but I didn't even sell them the clothes. I'd rather throw them in the trash, before I'd let these people money off of my daughter. I bought her a few shirts there that she wanted, but I would never go back there again.
PROS: a thrift store, fun to look around
CONS: over priced, try to rip off sellers
I took my daughter's cat here to Hockessin Animal Hospital after it fell out of a tree. I thought his leg was broken because he couldn't walk right. First off, they were giving me trouble about not having an appointment. I told them well I did not plan on having this cat fall out of a tree. They finally did see me and my cat, and they were not nice about it. They were also kind of rough with the cat. I expected they would be good with animals, but I saw no proof of that. They only checked the cat out for a few minutes, then gave him a shot of I believe pain medicine, and gave him back to me and said they were done. Well the cat was still not ok, and 2 days later, I had to take him to another hospital, to find out his paw was sprained. My cat turned out to be fine, but I had a really bad expierence here. So I can not really recommend it.
Top Dog Grooming in Elkton Maryland has it's good points and it's bad points. The bad part is it is run by I believe a high school, that let's students clean dogs for school credit. From what I understand, the kids don't get paid anything for it. Therefore they don't always do too good of a job. Plus they are not even trained well. On the other hand, the prices are good. It depended on what you want to get done here. If you just want them to shampoo your dog, they don't seem to have too much trouble. I had them give my dog a flea dip and they got stuff in her eyes and were just being kind of silly. Top Dog isn't really too bad, but then again, I am not so sure that I'll be going back there anymore.
Rainbow Kennels is a good place to go to get your dog washed. It is promoted as Newark's gay friendly pet groomers. It's owned by a man and his life partner / husband who both really like pets. My daughter has a kitten we got her not too long ago, and I saw that Rainbow Kennel was running a special on washing. I do prefer to go to small businesses when I can, rather then give all my money to corporations, so I thought I'd try them out. They did a great job and they were really funny guys. So I must recommend Rainbow Kennels to everybody.
The Dirty Dog groomers is a very strange store. It is right next door to Cleveland Avenue Sub Shop, but now here is the interesting part... it is owned by the exact same family that owns the sub shop. And the employees work at both places during the day. For example they will make a sandwich, go next door and wash your dog, then go next door and make you your sandwich. I took my dog there to get him washed and a flea dip, and the girl there was telling me how she worked at both places because her parents owned them. It's not a great place, because they are not professionals, they just clean dogs and make burgers. When I got my dog back, he still smelled bad, but I will say the people there are quite friendly. I wouldn't want to say anything bad about them, but I wouldn't go back.
