The Friends of San Diego Public Library has a very large selection of all types of books. It's central location and its quiet atmosphere makes it a great place to study for upcoming exams, or do research for a school project whether you are working on an elementary science fair, or college coursework. The staff is very friendly, and they are extremely good sources of knowledge. They seem to have an answer for just about every question you throw at them, and they are very good at locating resources which you might otherwise have difficulty locating (such as rare publications). Used book sales are almost always going on, and it's a great opportunity to own a book that you have been wanting to read, at a price well below the cover price. Additionally, all the money from book sales gets pumped right back into this wonderful library. The library is well kept, clean, and almost always quiet. There are places to sit, lounge, and otherwise just enjoy the wonderful world of reading. Their chairs are so comfortable, you might just find yourself flipping through the pages of multiple publications in a single afternoon, and it's a great place to go when it's cold, rainy, or dreary outside. People generally respect the "quietness" of this library, and it seems to be much more suitable for studying then some of the bigger libraries. If you are in the area, need a book, or there is something that you are dying to read, you will want to check out The Friends of San Diego Public Library.
PROS: Large selection of publications; convenient hours; comfortable atmosphere
CONS: None that I can think of
When you visit some dance studios to take lessons, if you are new to dancing, have never danced before, or have two left feet, you can feel out of place, or unwanted. That is not the case at all with Mac Vitties Dance Studio. Mac Vitties Dance Studio can make any person with two left feet, dance like they are on Dancing With The Stars in no time flat. The instructors are very supportive, ready, willing, and able to teach you what you need to know. If you have a special engagement coming up like prom, a wedding, reunion, or anywhere else, where you would like to be the center of attention while dancing, then go here to take lessons. The instructors really work with you, individually, to help you master the skills that you want to obtain from the dance classes. The prices are competitive with similar studios. The facility has a cozy feel to it, without skimping on anything. There is ample parking, and they have convenient hours, so that you can learn to dance, when you have time in your schedule. This dance studio is well kept, clean, and you will feel safe while learning to dance. The environment is non-threatening. Unfortunately at times, dance lessons are so popular here, that it can be a little crowded, but don't let that keep you away from this dance studio!
PROS: Competitively priced. Convenient location, ample parking, wonderful lessons
CONS: Can be crowded
Alpha Omega Dance is a wonderful place to get in shape, lose weight, or just maintain a regular exercise routine and/or active lifestyle. Their prices are very affordable compared to similar facilities, and they offer a wide range of services from professional exercise equipment to classes including kickboxing. It's definitely the best kickboxing workout that you will find anywhere in the area at such a low price, if not the only kickboxing workout you will find for such a low price. The staff is very knowledgeable about the wonderful world of fitness, and whether you are a beginner trying to get on the right track, in the middle of a weight loss program and trying to incorporate exercise, or a serious athlete, there is something for everyone at Alpha Omega Dance. They also have yoga classes so you can get that relaxed workout you have always dreamed of. The facility can be quite crowded, and sometimes you have to wait in line to use the machines. Give yourself a little extra time, and this isn't a problem, and definitely worth it, when you consider the great bargain that you are getting. Unlike the larger fitness facilities, and the chain fitness facilities, they don't draw attention to your weaknesses, or make you feel out of place. Whether you are 150 pounds, or wanting to get down to 150 pounds, they have a class, a fitness program, and the tools to help you achieve your goal. It's a great place to go and meet other people who are as pumped up about getting "pumped up" as you are. Ample parking and a convenient location round off the what's wonderful about this facility list.
PROS: Affordable. Lots of programs, classes, and options available.
CONS: Sometimes you have to wait to use the machines.
Alfredos Dog Grooming is a dog grooming place located in Chula Vista. While the cost is higher than you would pay at a chain store, the prices are competitive with other groomers in the area. The groomers on staff really care about your pet, and show them a lot of respect, a lot of love, and treat every dog like it was their own. They also show plenty of respect to the pet's owners, treating every pet owner like a valued customer. The groomers really pay attention to the customer's wishes, and if they don't get it "just right", they are happy to put forth a second effort to make their customer happy. Most of the people who use Alfredos Dog Grooming return for additional visits, when they have future grooming needs. The place generally isn't all that crowded, there is ample parking, and the hours are convenient, even if you are a working pet owner. You will receive top of the line, personalized dog grooming service, that even your pooch will want to smile about at Alfredos Dog Grooming.
PROS: Friendly staff committed to making your dog look his/her very best!
CONS: A little bit pricey.
Dunk N Dogs is one of those places where you can take your dog to be washed, if you do not want the mess at home. The staff is very friendly, caring, and personable. You can tell from the moment that you walk in, that you and your dog are respected, and that they will help provide the best possible service for your dog. The tubs and other equipment, while geared towards dogs, are comfortable for human beings to use, so you won't get extremely uncomfortable while washing your dog. This is a great place to go, if you don't want a huge mess at home. They have so many sweet, floral and fruit, and natural smelling shampoos and conditioners that your pooch will smell like a rich pampered Beverly Hills pooch in no time flat. If you have a special engagement to go to, and you want your dog smelling extra fresh and clean, then this is the place to go to wash your dog. In some ways, I understand how places like this can exist, washing a dog is a messy job, and someone has to do it, so you might as well use someone else's facility, rather than have the mess in your own home. The price is a bit higher then you might expect, considering that you are the one who does all of the washing, but I guess, it's a small price to pay if you want your pooch looking pampered, smelling sweet, and you don't want the wet dog smell in your home. The convenient location has convenient hours, ample parking, and a committed staff. It seems like a lot more work to load the dogs up in the car, take them here to be washed, load them back up in the car to take them home, then to just give them a bath in your own home, but I guess, if you have one of those "museum" looking homes, then this is the kind of place for you. Then again, if your house is like a museum, and you don't want it to get dirty, what are you doing owning a dog in the first place?
PROS: Friendly, caring staff. Convenient location and hours. Ample parking.
CONS: Cost is a little expensive.
South Bark Dog Wash is a well kept, organized place to take your dog for a bath. There setup is people and pet friendly at the same time. The staff is passionate about animals, and is a great asset when you have a dog that doesn't want to take a bath. This is a self service dog wash place, and you put your dog up into a tub, choose the shampoo that is right for your pet, and then bathe away. Your dog will be splish splashing (quite literally), in no time. The staff is so patient, and they really care about their customers, and the pooches that come into the South Bark Dog Wash. Convincing the dog to get into the tub is the hardest part, and the staff really is a great help when it comes to stubborn pooches who would rather do anything than take a bath. An apron helps protect your clothes, and it's sort of like a luxury bubble bath for dogs, with scented shampoos and conditioners, a place where you can brush or comb your dog, and even a place to dry them. The scent in the South Bark Dog Wash is a pleasant one, I guess all of those flower and fruit shampoos and facial products really make the place smell wonderful, and it doesn't at all smell like wet dog. The cost is reasonable, though not inexpensive; it's cheaper than similar facilities. There is ample parking, and the store has convenient hours.
PROS: Affordable; fun environment; hands on experience; friendly staff.
CONS: None that I can think of.

Aztec Recreation Center is an affordable gym that was designed with college students in mind. With a substantial discount for SDSU students, every college student can afford to work out at this awesome gym. With convenient hours, a convenient location, and a helpful staff, this gym is a real winner. The facility has top notch equipment including a weight room, aerobics classes, swimming pool, awesome sports courts, and much more. The best place to hit the Aztec Recreation Center is after class, when you will find yourself surrounded by your fellow classmates, and working out really can be fun in groups. In the summers, it's a peaceful gym oasis, and a lot less rowdy. They stock just about every train made for children that you can think of from plastic, to wood, to metal. There are displays, tracks, and setups all over the place.
