The San Diego Rescue Mission Thrift Store sells items that have been donated by the people of San Diego, to the San Diego Rescue Mission. The San Diego Rescue Mission is one of the few organizations in San Diego that helps the San Diego homeless population. The proceeds in the Thrift Store help run the Rescue Mission which cares for the homeless population in San Diego. When you donate items to the San Diego Rescue Mission, you receive a tax write off, and then they turn around and sell the items that are sale worthy and use the profits for their programs. Its a win-win situation. When you visit the San Diego Rescue Mission Thrift Store, dont expect to pay rock-bottom prices, after all, they are a charitable organization. However, if you are looking for large items, like furniture, you are sure to find high quality items at very good prices. They dont sell junk items that you would see at yard sales, and this place really is worth ducking into every once in awhile. Since everything is donated to the store, or purchased from outside sources inexpensively, you never know what you might find in their store. The convenient location, and caring employees make this thrift store one of the nicer, and more affordable ones in San Diego.
The Institute For Creation Research, Museum of Creation is located in Santee, and is a wonderful little museum to visit if you are a religious person, or want to learn more about the history, and what little proven facts there are about religion. Dont worry if you are not a religious person, they wont try to get you to sign up for any religion, nor will they argue that your beliefs are incorrect. There are some nice items on display at this museum, but the collection is relatively small. Still, its worth making at least one visit to this cozy little museum, who knows, you may want to come back and explore it somewhere down the road once more.
The Museum of Contemporary Art is not for the people who are into the classic art of the Renaissance and other similar eras. You wont find any of that kind of art in this museum. Instead, you will find lots of modern art that caters to perhaps a younger generation of art lovers. Photography seems to be the main type of art on display in this museum; however there are lots of sculptures as well. You have to think very much out of the box when you visit this museum, because it is not what you typically consider art. It is a great place for a field trip, especially for children or adults studying modern art. You will really gain a new understanding, and a new outlook on the world of art, with just one visit. The museums gift shop is probably one of the best parts about the museums. It is large, with lots of items from the small and relatively inexpensive (not cheap, this is a museum after all), to the outrageously expensive and over the top. What might be one of the best parts about this museum is its location, close to the beautiful beaches and expensive homes in La Jolla, its in the center of everything, and the scenery that surrounds it, is absolutely breathtaking.
When you think of a greeting card store, I am sure you automatically think of the big chains, such as Hallmark. Well, contrary to popular belief, there are other places in town you can go, when you want a high quality greeting card. One such place is the Fifth Avenue Card Company. All though its located in Hillcrest (not one of my favorite neighborhoods), the store is well kept, clean, and well stocked. They offer a wide selection of everyday cards, from birthday to anniversary cards, as well as a wide variety of hard to find cards like Mother in Law and Grandparents day cards. Sometimes, when you need a card for one of those important but odd occasions, the discount stores just dont have what you need. This little card shop certainly will. They also sell candy, pens, and other small items, as well as a variety of attic like treasures that you dont really need, but will be tempted to purchase anyway. The store hours are convenient, the staff is friendly, and the cards are easy to find in the store. I would rather shop a place like this once in awhile for a large stock up card run, then to visit a chain store every time I need one greeting card.
The Christian Community Theater boasts acting classes for young children in the city of San Diego. However, those classes are not what this review is about. This review is about the wonderful, inexpensive theater performances put on by this wonderful community theater group. You get a chance to see big name shows like Seussical the Musical and other top hits while supporting the local community theater. The stage for these performances is located on the beautiful Mt Helix, and the scenery is absolutely gorgeous, even when you are waiting for a production to begin. If you love the theater, but are tired of paying hefty Ticket Master prices, then you really should check out a Christian Community Theater production, you really wont be sorry that you did!
The Santee Drive In has been around for awhile, and you still really do get a chance to enjoy the true "drive in" feel when you visit this theater. Boasting two giant movie screens, and sound that runs off of the FM band, you truly receive an enjoyable evening of entertainment at the Santee Drive In. They have excellent snacks, and if you are not satisfied, they will replace it, or refund your money. Given the cost of movie ticket prices in traditional theaters today, the Santee Drive In is a steal of a deal for an evening of entertainment that the entire family can enjoy. You won't regret visiting this drive in, whether it's the first time you have been to a drive in, or if you are a seasoned drive in movie watcher. The drive in accommodates a lot of cars, so there is rarely a sell out, and at the same time, you have a sense of being "the only car in the theater" while watching the movie. The overall experience is very enjoyable.
Dont let the name Corporate Helicopters of San Diego fool you into thinking that they only offer helicopter services to businesses, that is not the case at all! They offer a wide variety of helicopter tours for people of all ages, including families with young children. Whether you want to tour the Thornton Winery and get a view of the Temecula Valley with some of your closest friends; Get a birds eye view of the beaches and famous landmarks in San Diego, take a beautiful tour over North County, or fly over the gorgeous Lake Hodges and the air station at Miramar where the military copters fly, there is a tour for everyone. The prices are a bit expensive in my opinion, all though, I must say that these tours are a once in a lifetime opportunity, and if you have the finances available to take advantage of them, you should go forth and soar, and enjoy all there is to see from a birds eye view of San Diego and surrounding areas.
Bikeman Limo Bikes is the way to get around the heavy traffic populated areas of San Diego, like downtown and the Gaslamp Quarter, without being stuck in a car, and stuck in traffic. Unlike an ordinary bike, which allows you to see it all downtown, a limo bike from Bikeman Limo Bikes is pedaled by someone else, and you just sit back, relax, and enjoy the scenery. The pedaling guides are very knowledgeable about all things related to San Diego, and they can recommend great places to eat, party, or just enjoy the scenery. The prices are reasonable, not inexpensive, but with the cost of gas, and the amount of traffic that passes through the downtown San Diego area, Bikeman Limo Bikes is definitely the way to see the sites of downtown San Diego, and the historic Gaslamp Quarter up close.
Scrapbook Junction is the best little scrapbook place in the Santee area. If you can think of it, and it is related to scrapbooks, you will find it in this store. The prices are reasonable, considering this is a "scrapbook specialty" store. They have all of the papers you could possibly ever need, whether you want a single sheet of a specific type, or a whole pack of your favorite assortment. In addition they have all of the cute little sayings and die cuts that can be hard to find at some of the larger, chain craft stores. They also have the hit scrapbook lines. What sets this store apart from every other scrapbook store in the area is the number of papers that they sell, combined with their excellent, knowledgeable staff. Whether you have an idea in your head, and you need to know the right tools for the job, or you brought in an idea sheet and need help locating specific supplies in the store, the staff is there to help, and they always seem eager to help you with a friendly smile, and warm small talk about the world of scrapbooks.
Discount Hobby Warehouse is conveniently located on Convoy Street in San Diego. Due to its location, parking can be a problem, but then, I cant think of too many places in San Diego where parking isnt a problem. The selection at Discount Hobby Warehouse, especially in model paint color choices, is minimal compared to other hobby stores. The prices are fair, reasonable, but definitely not that great of a discount like the name of the store would indicate. However, its convenient location, knowledgeable staff, and friendly customer service, will lead you back to Discount Hobby Warehouse time and time again for your basic hobby needs. However, dont expect to find too many hard to find paint colors at this place. A basic plastic model kit from Wal Mart took a large number of colors, and they did not even half of the colors that the kit required, of course Wal Mart, the place where the model was purchased, didnt carry all of the colors either.
