I came here with my mother and soon-to-be mother inlaw. We had a fun "girls" tea with finger sandwiches and desserts. Picking out a fancy/floppy hat the wear, along with the boa made it that much better. The owner makes you feel very special. I still laugh when I see the photo from that day. Too funny!
I was turned on to Cafe India by two of me vegetarian friends. I was not dissapointed. While we are not vegetarians, we enjoy the delicious veg. buffet and don't miss the meat. Staff is very friendly and will explain all the various dishes if you are a novice to Indian food. Easy parking.
The Bali Hai takes me back to some era past, where the drinks were big and Elvis was singing about Hawaii. I like to come here with friends, sit at the bar sipping mai tais and snacking on the big appetizer plate. Friendly bartenders and always an intersting crowd.
Con Pane makes a wide variety of breads, and also features a few special breads each day. Our favorits are the gryure and chive, and the awesome red onion and gargonzola foccacias. Staff is generally friendly, and parking is easy.
Hodad's is funky and has the best darn burgers in Ocean Beach, or the City of San Diego for that matter. The interior of the restaurant is also fun, with an international array of license plate frames tacked up all over the walls. For a special date, site in the old VW and share a shake. The staff is always fun and friendly, and usually a little bit edgy. Do you self a favor and go to Hodad's NOW!
Pizza Nova is in the same location, but in a fabulous new building. Great wood-fired pizzas and excellent fresh tossed salads. Also, the little breads that come out before the meal are garlic-riffic. This is a fine place to take kids. as its generally loud anyway. Nice views of the boats and bay from huge windows. Alway a good value.
Popular lunch time spot with the business crowd for burgers and fries. Also a great spot to grab an inexpensive beer or meal before a show at the Civic Center. Order at the counter, grab a seat and they will call your number. Outside seating is a great way to grab some San Diego sunshine. Good people watching on civic plaza as well.
I love this place. Cozy inside with the dark tables, and especially when the fire place is going. The fish and chips is great, as are the bangers and mash. Friendly staff, and a nice selection of beers. Popular happy hour spot with the downtown crowd, and also a lot of regulars as well. You can also pick up a copy of the local Brits newspaper here.
This popular place features a great selection of breakfast options. We like to come with our pooch and sit outside when the weather is nice. Parking can be problematic at times.
Want to feel like you have been transported to Ireland, than the Field is for you. The food excellent and the staff friendly. Upstairs area can be secured for a private party (e.g. holiday luncheon). The decore if great, apparently brought over from Ireland in pieces! A nice change to the other snooty places in the Gaslamp.
