As a family we love zoos and go to one whenever we go somewhere that has one. The Louisville zoo is not very big compared to other zoos we've been to and they have hardly any area for stopping to rest for a little while. They have tried to get the animals into a more natural habitat which is good, though steps up in front would be great for younger children who can;t see as well as older taller kids. The zoo is also entirely on a hillside so if you're going with grandparents ,make sure they are up for the hike uphill. Parking is easy with plenty available and prices are comparable to other zoos. They often have specail events for kids around holidays so be sure to watch the paper for news of those.
Yuck, this is nothing more than a pawn shop. They carry mostly new low end cheap jewelry. The employees are not knowledgeable about gems or jewelry and cannot answer any questions requiring any real knowledge of gemology. Nor are they very willing to help in many other ways. Not the kind of store I want to go into and not the kind of store I feel very safe in either. If you're looking for estate jewelry you're better off locally going to the Castle or online going to www.rosssimons.com and browsing their selection of estate jewelry. If you want cheaply made overpriced junk then Dans is the place for you.
This is where I take my rings to be sized and repaired. They are always careful to confrim what the stone is and always tell me if it will have to be removed from its mounting for sizing or reapir. They are always friendly and are willing to answer any question we may have. The service has always been good, they strive toward customer satisfaction and will redo work if need be. They fixed a problem setting for me where the stone would not sit level and I have not had a probelm with it since. They also serivce and repair watches....if I could just remember to gather them all up and taken them in for battery changes. I can't think of anyone else in town I'd trust with my jewelry. Turn around time is quick as well....about a week.
Small but has an interesting variety of estate jewelry as well as new jewelry. Employees will let you browse and will show you anything you want to see for as long as you want to look. My girls love to go there because the ladies who work there treat them as they do any other customer allowing them to try things on too. Prices here seem to be negotiable as they have often been lowered by around 25-30% when we have purchased something. Sizing services are offreed but are not done in house so it's just as easy to avoid any fees they may have and take the item somewhere yourself.
This locally owned and operated winery is a great place to spend an afternoon, you can pack a picnic lunch and walk through the grounds until you find just the right spot to enjoy your lunch and the beauty of the vineyard itself. It's so pretty, the vineyard would be a great place for a wedding Before you leave try the wine it's terrific and you can visit their gift shop to take some home. They also have a cafe that is open Tuesday through Saturday for lunch from 11:30 to 2:30. If you can't get out to the vineyard they sometimes can be found at the Lexington Farmer's Market downtown on Saturday morning selling wine and other items from the gift shop.
I cannot believe that HGTV allows themselves to be associated with this place. It's practically falling down. While the front entryway is warm and somewhat organzied that's all gifty type items . Once you go beyond the entryway to what is actually architextural salvage the place is an unorganized disaster and honestly, I think it' s unsafe as well. It's place that seems to have been added onto repeatedly with what seems to be lean-to's, the lighting is very little to non existant so it's dark and damp throughout . Items that are outside are not well covered so many are rusting or exposed to the elements. Prices here are completely outrageous, you'd be better off traveling to Louisville or Ohio and saving a bit of money , protecting your safety, and getting out for the day.
Wow! Louis always has the most beautiful flowers in town. They have three or four little parking lot shops like this around town which are perfect for running out to get just a few more plants to fill a bare spot in the yard. That's how we started buying our plants there, I never buy enough the first time and who wants to get dressed to go inside a store when you're in the middle of planting? Unlike places like Home Deopt or Lowes plants are really cared for at Louis. Shade plants are placed in shade, part sun in partial sun and so forth. The flowers we buy here are always visibly healthier than the plants our neighbor gets a chain stores and easily as healthy as the ones our other neighbor starts from seed in his greenhouse. If you aren't sure what you're looking for or how to care for a plant, ask they'd be glad to help you and they'll evenhelp you load them into your car!
Two years ago I spent at least three weeks in the spring traipsing around town looking for a certain variety of a veggie I wanted in my garden. Finally my neighbor asked me if we had been to Fayette Seed, I didn't even know it existed, they don't seem to advertise and anyone who doesn't have reason to frequent Red Mile Road mya not know of it either. The place really is a terrific place for finding varieties of plants and seeds not carried in most stores. I don't mess much with seeds since it's easier for me with kids to buy the starts and the plants we have purchased from them have always been very healthy . Healthy enough to live through the blantent neglect they get from me. The employees there will dig all the way to the back of shelves and through vast numbers of plants to help you find what you want or get that one last color that's way out of reach. Anytime I've had a question about growing here I go to them and am always given an answer and then some. I am giving them 3 stars only because I think they need to make themselves more well known, as for service, friendliness, knowledge and number and variety of itmes in stock I'd give them a 4.
Pieratt's has a couple of locations around Lexington though I have only been inside the one on Nicholasville Road. Getting into and parking in their parking lot is difficult at best but is definately worth the effort. Though it's a relatively small shop compared to other big box stores here in town they offer the best deals on high end Audio/ Visual equipment and appliances. The sales staff is welcoming and friendly, allowing you to browse all you want and come to them when you have questions etc. Children are welcomed here as well and my girls have always been offered a cookie, a lollipop, stickers or something to keep them happy while we shopped. I've not had anything delived by them so I can't really review their delivery service but in store customer service has always been great for us.
It's clean and the employees are helpful. We had one of our daughters birthday parties here and it was great. A table was provided cake and ice cream and then the kids all go to bowl. The mess was cleaned up by the employees and all we had to do was show up have fun and leave. What a great deal. All the kids loved it and it was fun for us too.
