i visited dr. patel once. i found him to be a very competent, engaging person. his office staff made me feel uncomfortable. there was one woman there who seemed to have a "british" accent and i felt this woman was trying very hard to sell me on the doctor. the hygenist was fine. i had talked to the person who had referred me to him and told her my experiences and then i found out that she stopped going to dr. patel also because of that same woman. so - he's a good dentist, but i just didn't feel right about one of the members of his staff.
PROS: good dentist
CONS: staff person made me uncomfortable
a good attorney is hard to find and i feel lucky finding mark rose. his office is across from the park - in a small brick building. mark has helped my family with many different cases (divorce, living trusts, 1 lawsuit) and we have found him to be understanding, professional and bright. i've recommended him to other people who agree with me after using mark's services. the parking is kind of a pain - it's on alhambra - so be prepared to try and find a space, but for peace of mind - it's well worth it.
PROS: good attorney
the daily grind is by home depot on florin. it's a tiny little coffee stand. they sell donuts, coffee, hot dogs - food stand type food. it's a great idea because home depot is so huge and impersonal - i tend to get a coffee before walking in - makes shoppping at home depot a little less painful. the prices are good - the service is adequate. there's rarely a wait and the pastries are fresh.
Dr. Mori is a wonderful person and optometrist. He is throughly professional and a warm person. He doesn't keep you waiting for your appointment as so many others do. His office - albeit small has a comfortable feel to it. You're never kept in the waiting room long so I can't comment on the magazine selection. Unlike most visits to the Doctor - this one is always pleasant and easy. He's helpful and honest.
PROS: The Doctor
professional photographers are so hard to findand eleakis is a godsend. with the profusion of digital photographers and photoshop, everyone and their brother believes they're photographers, but there's so much more to it. i suggested eleakis to a friend for some promo pictures and they came out incredible. i've had them do holiday cards and have used their services for restoration etc. i highly recommend their work. they're located on freeport - they have a big sign, but there are so many businesses there you have to be on the lookout for them.
PROS: great work
this is a great store. it's not very big - it's on the second level of the plaza, but it is a world of fun. they have merchandise from every trendy movie, tv series, band, - you name it. i have found elvis, beatles, superman, blankets, cards, any kind of novelty you could think of. they have some very cool games and lamps as well. it's a great place for gift shopping - especially for a preteen. my niece loves this place! the clerks are helpful and attentive - there's normally only 2 there (the store isn't big), but they do their best to help you.
PROS: merchandise, clerks
a friend recommended guzzetta, when i was looking for someone to reset a diamond ring. located in a strip shopping center, guzzetta is a good size jewelry store with a pretty big staff. i went to the clerk with my ring and she took it - before i was to explain what i wanted. she came back with who i thought was the jeweler - only to find out he was a clerk also. i started to explain what i wanted done and they couldn't quote me a price or an approximate date i would get it, but it was obvious i wasn't going to get my ring back from these 2 clerks. so - i decided to have it done through them. the work was marginal at best, the turn around time was quick - 4 days. i didn't like their tactics at all and will not return.
CONS: the pushy staff and the quality of the work
this is one of my favorite places for coffee and dessert. the coffee selection is great and as long as they have the hazelnut cream - i'm a happy camper. i've had lunch on the patio a few times and it's been delightful - they make great soups. the staff is friendly and efficient, the place is always clean. i like the decor a lot - it's modern- yet comfortable.
PROS: really good quality of coffees
since they've moved - it's a much nicer place. it no longer resembles the garage it once did. it's much larger now - no more upstairs. now it has trendy hanging lamps, a nice floor, a really nice bar and great entertainment. it feels like a totally different place except the crowd is the same. i've been there numerous times and always have a good time. you can order coffee, drinks, a nice selection of beers and the burritos are still great. nice for a chill evening.
i went to the naked lounge ona cold january evening. it was packed. when you enter the first thing you notice are the comfy chairs and sofas spead around small tables. there are some barrels that are used for tables also. kind of a weird rustic, eclectic ambience. the clerk behind the long counter was nice and helpful. he suggested the mexican hot chocolate for such an evening and he was right on the money! it was a concoction of luscious chocolate, cinnamon, milk, whipping cream - topped with sprinkles (of course) and it was yummy! i've been back a few times since then and had different blends of coffee - it's a nice vibe - very low key.
