Fabric Outlet & More
I found this place by accident nex to the Family Dollar. It is okay for some fabric needs, but the selection could be better. They will make things on order which is good if you can't sew and they appeared to have quite a bit of upholstery materials, but like I said they fabric selection in stock wasn't the greatest. They can order for you though. Okay for a small town, I guess better than nothing. The prices were fair.
PROS: Nice to have in town
CONS: Not much of a selection
Adel Tumbling & Dance Club
We have been coming here for several years now and my daughters just love it. They have learned so much and the recitals are looked forward to all season long. There is a break during the summer, which is nice and the class size is limited, which I like. The prices are still pretty much small town prices and the costumes are no more expensive than any ohter places( I have checked.) It is very professionally run and organized by age group and ability. My child has done well here and this experience will help her with a dance team try-out someday or cheerleading
Garden Gates Antiques
Well, this is a quaint little store with a tiny bit of everything. Nestled in the small town of Adel, it has an historic charm not just with it's contents, but also it's location. There are crafts and anitiques unique to Iowa here. I love their couch throws which have a map of the state of Iowa and then contain all the counties names. It is a classy throw for a gift or just for your own decorative use. The prices are a little high, but no worse than any other small town gift shop.
Suzanne E. Morton-Miller, PT
I suffer from degenerative spine disease and have been ordered for physical therapy off and on. This place has great people and techniques that leave me feeling good fro weeks after I leave. The pressure and stress that is released from my neck is just incredible! I find it more theurapeutic than any other form of treatment. It is covered by most insurance. Also they ahve very flexible hours for those with hevy work schedules.
Paul's Pest Control
This is the best priced pest control I have found in my area. Not only are his prices fair and decent, he also saved me fromj making a big mistake when I was told I my home was infested with termites. It was totally a scam by another company to make a lot of money off me. Paul's will only do what is necessary and not try to sell a bunch of uneeded services. If you do have a pest though, he will make sure it goes away!
Porchlight LLC
There are vintage finds from all over the U.S.A... accessories & new gift items with a nostalgic feel...
This store has antiques collected from all over the United States and carries a certain nostalgic theme. I found a very old Barbie here that was in mint condition-a one of a kind! The store focuses on vintage USA items as well as farm and cottage furniture. I am a Laura Ingals fan, so this was definitely my thing, but like I said there is just a bit of every which way in here as well. There really isn't a "category" to call this place. Pretty neat!
Write Touch
It is nice to actually "physically" go to the place your wedding invitations are going to made. You can see for yourself what you are actually getting and there are less mistakes made. From personal experience this was easier than ordering from a catalog over the phone and getting a typo on your very important wedding cards! This is a retail stationery store with Iowa's largest selection of wedding invitations & birth announcements; unique greeting cards and gifts. They specialize in all types of invitations for all kinds of families and occasions. I was very impressed with this stores variety and selections!
Time Cracker Gifts
This is one of the many gift shops in Valley Junction of Des Moines. I didn't find much new here except the "Exclusive Rhythm USA motion clocks." They offer music boxes, handmade wood & metal farm machinery, John Deere & Coca-Cola items, petal cars, jewelry & more unique gifts, but it seems that there is an abundance of this theme in Valley Junction and I found it hard to find something I hadn't already seen. Still a unique gift shop to the Des Moines area though and an excuse to get down to Valley Junction.
Teacups & Tiaras (Tea Room & Trinkets)
This is a unique little British Tea room/gift shop that actually has tea hour and serves an variety of different teas. The gift shop is open to girls from age 6-106, which is absolutely adorable! Gifts range from packets of tea to baskets of goodies or a little porcelain tea set for any little girl you might know. If you are looking for a special tea, be it herbal or for health, this is the place. I love tea and can always seem to find the most unique flavors here...and the best part is staying for tea and having a free sample!!
Serendipity
This Valley Junction gift shop offers a unique array of home accents and gifts with an emphasis on country-style, folk art, primitives, and vintage items. They also carry antiques, decorative flags, candles, gourmet food mixes, scented soaps, and many other fun items to give as gifts or pick up for yourself. Seasonal items are available for the holidays. I found a great vintage wreath here that looks great on the front door of my mother's house. She has an old Victorian home with a huge front porch. I never imagined a wreath of such proportions, but here is where I found it! If you're looking for the "unheard of" this is the place to be!!
