My friends would ask me week after week, "Hey, do you wanna go to B-Dubs? It's thirty-five cent wing night" I would give them a smirk and tell them no. I didn't understand why they would go week after week for chicken. But finally one week I gave in and now I'm the biggest fan of B-Dubs. Their wings are amazing (you can choose from their twelve odd sauces) and the atmosphere is a sports bar and a family restaurant.
PROS: great food, fun atmosphere; play the trivia game
After I moved to the Cities I realized the importance of finding a good grocer and the full potential of coupons. Unfortunately, Cub Foods was that grocer. It was only until one day when a friend lured me into Rainbow that a whole other rainbow of savings opened up to me. So from now on, I'm hitting both!
PROS: great sales/coupon prices, selection
CONS: often busy
I'm not really the health food guru or anything. Believe me, I watch what I eat, but sometimes I think this whole "organic food" thing is a scam of sorts. My mind was changed when I shopped at Whole Foods. I figured I would try some of their "natural" foods, and to my delight, it did seem healthier and make me more vibrant.
PROS: exotic selection, but good food
After a shopping excursion at Lunds, I couldn't help but classify it as a market on steroids. The layout was wacky, their selection of food was exotic (unless you're one of those health fanatics), and some of their prices were absurd. I determined that I would say farewell to mister Lunds and hello to the Rainbow Foods of goodness.
PROS: good quality products
CONS: price, layout
Caribou Coffee is one of the competitors of Starbucks. It is mainly a Minnesotan thing, but in my book should be all over the country. Not only is the atmosphere very quant and cozy, but they also have very ingenius marketing and advertising schemes, coming up with ideas for new coffees and coolers even before Starbucks.
PROS: great coffee, neat ideas
Kowalskis is one of the cleanest grocery markets I have ever shopped at. Their selection is usually very large, with some exotic foods/brands for sale. However, I find that their prices and sales are not always comparable to a Cub Foods or Rainbow Foods, but if there's one in your neck of the woods, I say 'go for it'!
PROS: clean, good selection
CONS: sometimes pricey
I have not actually attended or had family attend Maranatha, but have heard many things about this institution. Their goal is to provide an education for children to be founded in their faith and to ever-so-slightly get Christian parents away from homeschooling their children. I met a few of the faculty and they are honest and caring people.
PROS: good education, teachers really care
Unfortunately Kingdom Sound has dissolved, but the numerous times our church did do business with them, the products and service was professional. They brought their own sound system and trailer, set everything up quickly and flawlessly, and obviously enjoyed what they're doing. We now bought their old system (it was previously used for a stage at the Sonshine Festival) and it is working great!
PROS: great guys, friendly, professional
The guys at Metro Sound and Lighting set me up with a local gig I had. I had problems with one of the lights, but they told me to bring it back and they gave me a new one no problem. Needless to say, the show went great and I didn't have a hole in my pocket - who knew you could almost actually make money playing music?
PROS: friendly, reliable
On a Sunday afternoon some buds and I figured we'd try a shot at 9 holes. Highland has a more professional 18 hole course across the road, so we'd venture to the amateur 9 holes. Though it is for the golfing ignorant, these 9 holes gave us a challenge. Nice student fee (if you are under 21).
PROS: good scenary, not to difficult, cheap with student discount
CONS: pricey without student discount
