We bought 3 windows off of Homeworks Central through the local newspaper auction. The first person came to measure and take pictures of our window setup at the beginning of October. He said it would be 4 -6 weeks for everything to be completed. Four weeks later, a different person (contractor), called to say that he had to stop out and measure the windows so that they could order them...meaning we were still at square one four weeks in! We set up an appointment, but the morning of, the contractor called saying he might not be able to make it because they were having car issues. We were taking off work for this, so we tried calling him back to see what the story was...he wouldn't pick up his phone. Finally at about 5 pm we got a hold of him...he wasn't going to make it. So we re-scheduled for a week later. They showed up with one window for our CPU room and two double windows for our baby room (only supposed to be one double window). They took all of the windows out, and discovered that they had the wrong size for the baby room! So they had ordered double of the wrong sized windows...even after two people came and measured. To make matters worse, they had already taken the old window out, so they had to board up the window in the baby room. Our baby was due in two weeks, but they assured us it wouldn't be longer than that. While the board was working okay, it was still freezing in the baby's room. It took four more weeks to get someone back out to install the last windows. It took a total of 13 weeks from the time the first person came out to measure. Needless to say, I was pretty upset about the whole situation. A few weeks later, the president of the company called me up to apologize for all of the problems we had. He knew of our situation, but I don't think he knew the extent of our issues. He said that he would personally come out to our house, measure a few more windows, and install them free of charge to show how their company usually works and completes projects on time. I was not disappointed. Three weeks later we had new windows installed in our house...it would have actually only been two weeks had it not been for my busy schedule! I was really impressed by the way they handled this...they could have just let me be a frustrated customer...instead they've made my family happy as well as possibly gained some future business from people I know who have heard my story. Thanks Homeworks Central...you really came through in the end!
Six Flags Magic Mountain is the place to go in Southern California for roller coasters. They've got a nice variety of different thrill rides, all of which are entertaining to some degree. It's not as family friendly as Disney or Knott's, but there are a few rides that would be good for the family. This place is all about the roller coasters, and it definitely delivers. Depending on when you go, it can either be really crowded, or surprisingly vacant. I've seen both. What's really frustrating is waiting in line for an hour for one of the rides, then they shut it down for various reasons...that's happened to me a couple of times at this place. Otherwise, it's always been a fun day. Definitely recommended.
PROS: lots of great thrill rides
CONS: long lines, bit of a drive
Prints Charm'n is the best place I have been to get headshot reproductions. They have always been on time, and they also have some very good pricing. What surprised me was the fact that they are almost always pretty busy, but they always manage to get the job done. The employees there are also very helpful and nice. I would definitely recommend checking out Prints Charm'n.
PROS: quick, relatively inexpensive
Final Print was the first place I ever visited to have headshot reproductions made. I needed them pretty quickly, and they said that they could get it done by the time I needed them. Well, the time passed, and then another week passed! They said that they had misplaced my negatives and couldn't find them. First of all, they should have been a lot more organized and responsible with my negatives, which I had paid a lot of money for. Second, they should have given me some kind of discount or something for being so late and not holding up their end of the bargain...but I received nothing. I was very disappointed with this place...not recommended.
CONS: everything else
The Pantages Theater is one of the best places I've been in Los Angeles to see live theater. They usually have some of the top national touring shows playing there...the last show that I saw there was "The Producers." It's a really nice older theater...not too big, but definitely not small. Prices are pretty reasonable as well. I'd definitely recommend checking out a show here sometime.
PROS: top notch theatrical productions
I've been to Puddles Car Wash a number of times. I never would have stopped there, had I not received free car washes from Hardin Honda after I had some service done to my car. There always seemed to be a lot of people that took their cars their, but the employees were always very quick and efficient and got the work done. It's pretty inexpensive to get a wash there...I'd definitely recommend it to anyone.
PROS: quick, good work
This is one of the nicer malls I've been to in Orange County. The clientele is mostly middle class, not a lot of thugs seen here as you might in some other malls. My only big complaint is the parking...it can be really bad around the weekend. Plus it takes forever to get out of there because of all the cars going in and out of the place, so that can be a big downside as well. Regardless, they have plenty of good shops and most of the standard businesses you would expect to find at the local mall. Very highly recommended.
PROS: Nice mall
CONS: busy quite often
The College Barber Shop is a barber school located in the heart of Old Town Orange. It's right down the street from Chapman University, so it is a great location for college students. The prices are very reasonable, but there is a reason for that. The stylists are all training and in school, so just hope that you get someone that knows what they are doing! I probably went there 15 times when I was in school, and only had one bad experience. That bad experience was pretty bad though...I asked for a trim, and the woman nearly shaved my head bald! I got my money back, but I wasn't able to go back after that experience. I did have some great cuts there though, so it's all in who you get.
PROS: cheap, nice location
CONS: some stylists are new and don't know what they are doing
I've ordered various types of media from Edgewise over the years, and they have always had some great prices. When I was in school they even gave me discounts, so that helped make a good deal an even better one. From CDs to Beta SP tapes, they have every kind of media that you could possibly need. It's best to go in planning on buying in bulk...it's a lot cheaper that way. They are really quick too. No complaints here for Edgewise...definitely check them out.
PROS: cheap, quick
When I lived in South Pasadena, I always took my car to Goudy Honda. They were always quick, and very efficient in getting the necessary work done for my car. Their prices are pretty expensive, as are prices when you usually take your car to the dealer rather than a regular auto body shop, but I always felt comfortable taking my car. I used to get free oil changes there because of some of the services I had done, so that was a nice little bonus. All in all, Goudy Honda is a good auto repair place that knows their Hondas.
