About 10 years ago I managed to persuade my parents to enroll me in the AYSO soccer league and I have never regretted the experience AYSO has given me.
The coaches are exceptional - many are former MLS athletes with countless years of experience on hand. While playing soccer, I was taught the meanings of teamwork, discipline, good sportsmanship, and communication - all of which have greatly influenced my character.
Do your kids a favor and let them pl-AYSO-ccer.
PROS: Amazing staff that truely cares
During my years as Captain of my club Polo team, my teammates and I often felt it necessary to see Mike for his amazing, affordable massages. His technique is second to none and it should go without say that I highly recommend him.
Ever since I moved out of Redondo I certainly miss his treatments and friendly attitude.
Often times when visiting masseuses I find myself bored and about to fall asleep - but certainly not with Mike. A contemporary of the arts and a politician at heart, we enjoy chats about the economy, current events, and yachting - often even after the massage.
Do your body a favor and give Moralis a call.
PROS: Great Masseuse, incredible location, affordable
Although Mira Costa is blessed with an incredible teachings staff and satisfactory testing scores, the culture and social manifestation of Mira Costa is consumed by an ever growing drug, sex, and alcohol predicament.
During my visits to the campus for ASB related business, I often felt myself quickly pacing through the campus trying to avoid second hand inhalation of marijuana, offerings of crack cocaine, and the once in a while sitings of a couple eloping under the stairs.
To the oblivious mind, this High School is a fine choice for the academics, but such academics are not unseen in the South Bay. Instead, such institutions as Redondo High and Peninsula (in Palos Verdes) afford a greater, and incredibly less taboo, academic and social lifestyle.
PROS: Academics, Teachers
Ordinarily, antiquities hold a high magnitude of value to the public - primarily for the sake of nostalgia. Unfortunately, such nostalgia should be restricted to the useless hole-in-the-wall pawn shops and eBay - certainly not a High School.
Technology, or lack there of, at West High is deplorable. After having spent a semester at this institution some time ago, myself as well as fellow students were dismayed at how far behind our school was compared to our rivals. While studying World History (this was 1996) we were taught not of the Democratic Russia, but of the 'present day USSR' ( our text books were circa 1985).
The food, like most high schools, was awful, and the staffing was slim to none. As another reviewer mentioned, they couldn't even afford Kleenex (or any other generic substitute, for that matter).
Of all annoyances, however, the greatest was their incompetent administrative staffing. Often, I felt myself going to the Torrance District Office to resolve my teacher / class conflicts.
Do your future a favor and instead transfer to Redondo Union High School (look for my review).
Although the API scores may seem higher than other institutions, its not because of the teachers. The students are all self driven and have learned not to trust the faculty.
PROS: Great Location
CONS: Read the review, everything!
Don't waste your time at the local competitors (namely ABC Pool & Patio, look up my review) - just go straight to these guys for your pool maintenance needs. The entire staff is well seasoned in the field of Pool maintenance and can tell you exactly how to get your pool in tip top shape and saves you money doing so! Their prices are fantastic and they don't allow you to waste money on needless items.
Be sure to get a free Water Testing bottle from them and take advantage of their free Water Inspection services. Also, be sure to sign up for their newsletters for great coupons!
PROS: Great Service, Friendly Staff, Reasonable Prices
Perhaps I should have known not to waste my time at ABC the moment I glanced at their deteriorating facade - strewn with cobwebs, non-functioning lights, termite feeding shutters, and all over ghastly aura.
Instead, I went in. After the cleaning crew who usually maintains my pool was not able to come for a few weeks I decided to take up the task on my own. It was an endeavour as such which led me to conclude that ABC P&P is NOT the most helpful place to go for such a task. Their staff is far from experienced and seemingly unwilling to take on new customers. After arriving with a bottle of pool water for testing, they instead pushed me into buying my own test kit and were obviously bugged when I asked how often I should bring in water for testing.
Ordinarily I wouldn't have thought much of this, but after having visited Leslie's Pool Supplies (who INSISTS on you bringing water to them for testing) I realized something is wrong.
Don't waste your time, just go to Leslies. (Do a search and look for my review ;) ).
PROS: Cool BBQs
CONS: Everything but the BBQs
After having been introduced to this exceptional dining experience by girlfriend a few years back, I've never stopped coming back! I honestly feel like this is the greatest thing that ever came out of that otherwise disastrous relationship.
My go to food at the Corner Bakery is certainly their Chicken Pomodori (MMMMMMM sooo good). Although many people complain about the price, I must disagree. Although relatively expensive (~$6 for the pomodori) the value of the meal and the exceptional dining experience greatly counter weigh the amount paid. As a thriving economic and financial advisor to the Fortune 500's top 100 companies, I must say that an investment in a cuisine as such would most CERTAINLY provide ample utility to erase whatever cognitive dissonance that may flood ones emotions.
Always ask for more fries and don't forget to grab some bread and muffins for the house!
In any case, at least give these guys a try.
PROS: Great food! Happy staff, excellent service.
CONS: Too far from my residence!
For the price, Redondo V&S (as they've come to be known in my group of South Bay colleagues) is a terrific alternative to the many more expensive movers found in the Los Angeles area. Their service is exceptional and, as other revieweres have mentioned, they are EXTREMELY cautious and care for your furniture as if it were their own.
Perhaps the most valuable part of their service, the part that sets Redondo V&S apart from the rest, is how they actually HELP you pack. Included with every estimate is a very useful brosure on organizing tips and the likes - look at it very carefully!
One more thing, definatly DO NOT trust the super low-budget movers. Do yourself a favor and just call these guys up, you'll thank me!
PROS: Price, Value, Workmanship
CONS: They did arrive a few hours late on one occassion....
As a Real Estate Developer by hobby in the greater South Bay area, De Maria Design is certainly my number one go-to creative consultant for all new projects.
Their ability to take a project from a few sketches on the back of a beer coaster to a phenomenal $5 million Mediterranean piece of architectural artwork is unrivaled in the industry.
Many of the homes I've developed in partnership with De Maria have been showcased in countless exposes throughout the country.
Although De Maria is purely a blue-printing firm (they don't do the physical work themselves), they do aid in the directing of the development and have partnerships with many fine developers throughout the Los Angeles county.
Only consult De Maria if you've already obtained the financial backing and capital to endeavour a fairly expensive project - but if your means are for pure investment, expect great rates of return.
PROS: Creative, enthusiastic, clearly the best
Perhaps my greatest and most influential decision in my later teen years in the South Bay was attending this fine institution. The faculty at RUHS is second to none, many of whom are Ph.D's in their respective fields - a true first for a Secondary School.
Students are afforded access to world class chemical and computer laboratories, an on campus library overflowing with classics and contemporaries, as well as an on campus cuisine comparable only to Wolfgang Puck's 'Spago'.
A two minute walk from the world renowned Redondo Beach Harbor as well as the Hermosa Beach Strand, (both of which are well documented in the Fox Teen-Drama 'The OC') students never seem to run out of creative and fun ways of spending free time. Redondo Union was also featured in the blockbuster movie 'The Hot Chick'.
Many extracurriculars set Redondo apart from other such High Schools in the country. Most prestigious among them is the Redondo Pilot - an award winning and nationally recognized yearbook featuring state-of-the-art photography and design.
Many notable alumni have walked on Redondo Union's campus - perhaps most notable of all of them Charles Lindbergh.
The campus is a true piece of artwork and is in fact the largest High School campus on the western side of the Mississippi River. In fact, its the 3rd largest in the nation! (Don't worry, students are given plenty of time to get to and from classes).
PROS: Fantastic social, academic, and extracurricular lifestyle.
