For many years we did an annual camping trip at Lake Louise. You can rent a site and make your camp; be it a RV or a tent. Family orientated business and a friendly staff. The lake is small, but great for swimming and being lazy in a paddle boat. Playgrounds available for the kids, arcade games, and a lifeguard is always on duty. Also has doing in the pavilion like bingo, etc.
This is a great place to go on a hot summer day! Admission prices vary and extra money to rent a tube for the day (but well worth it). The lazy river is awesome and if you rent your own tube, you won't have to get out to pass the tube to the next person! The wave pool is great and the waterslides are neat! My favorite is the lazy river though; which has 2 pathways--one to get soaked in and the other to really relax in.
Navy Pier is a great destination for a host of different activities. Check out the IMAX theater, or head on out on a cruise on Lake Michigan. Bring your children to the The Children's Museum or have them ride the merry-go-round or the huge ferris wheel. Lots of restaurants and shops. It's a great destination to spend the day.
Expect a large crowd if you go on a weekend night. Lots of teenagers/kids running around. The road leading up to the theater is torn up too; it's a gravel road!
I enjoy coming to this theater for a matinee because there are hardly any people and you get to enjoy the movie in peace.
It's a large theater with lots of screens, stadium seating, great concessions, and huge bathrooms. Check it out.
I attended a wedding reception here in the month of January. It was a great facility; welcomed into the building with a large fire going in the fireplace. The room was a nice size and the wait staff was fast and friendly. The food was great, except that the salad was over-chilled; almost frozen actually. Highly recommend it for those interested.
Every year this orchard has a corn maze for people to get lost in. Maps and clues are provided to find your way out. Hopefully you can make your way before night falls! What's really spectacular is around Halloween they make the maze haunted. Go at night and wander around and be careful for lurking monsters and psychos with chainsaws! It's great fun for all ages.
As far as bookstores go for NIU, I recommend VCB over this location. This store has everything that the VCB has to offer but it seems more expensive. This store also has longer lines and book buyback is completely confusing. I prefer VCB for book buyback as well. This is a great place to browse while killing some time on campus. It has cute NIU gear.
I preferred to shop here at the VCB over the NIU bookstore. I like the customer service; especially since you can pre-order your books for the semester, That way you can just go into the bookstore and pick them up instead of having to find them. VCB had lots of art and school supplies in stock and lots and lots of NIU gear. Sweatshirts, t-shirts, pjs, and lots of Greek gear too.
My family went here to get 2 cats and our extended family also had success in finding a cat for their household. Excellent service provided. It's not in the best location, but to save the animals you must drive out there. They had plenty of animals to go around. The paperwork was easy and they referred us to a Vet for continuing care.
I would pick another hospital in the area, over this one, for my medical needs. The ER waiting room is not pleasant at all and quite frankly I don't feel safe in it. Same goes for the parking lot/garage.
The rooms are clean and the nurses are friendly; but it doesn't make up for the lack of security you feel. I'm also not completely satisified with the doctor that attended on my mother-in-law either.
