Carpets of Urbana is located on the north side of town. A locally owned owned and operated store that specializes in carpet sales, Carpets of Urbana also sells vinyl flooring, hardwood flooring, and ceramic tile, as well as area rugs and custom window blinds. They have some items in-stock and others can be ordered. They are also certified to install the flooring for you and accept various forms of payment, including financing. They are open daily, except Sundays. They are open late on Mondays.
McLaughlins Jewelers is locally owned and operated since 1947. It is located on the square in historic downtown Urbana, so parking is limited. On-street parking is available in front of the store with a two hour time limit. McLaughlins is open daily except Sundays. The small store offers a selection of watches and gold and diamond jewelry, as well as Irish gifts and jewelry. They also do repairs. They accept major credit cards. Coupons are sometimes available in the local phone book.
Heritage Home is a home decor shop. The quality of items is good. They have small decor items--seasonal and other, larger furniture items, candles, and paintings. It is locally owned and operated and located in downtown Urbana. Parking is limited as it is on-street with a two hour limit. Prices are kind of expensive. We have yet to buy more than a couple things there. Although it seems like the style of the store has changed for the better recently.
The Springfield News-Sun is a larger local paper with daily issues, including a larger Sunday issue. The coverage area extends to the Miami Valley and is not strictly Springfield or Clark County, although that is a focus. They also run regional, state, national, and international stories. It costs about $0.50 an issue and $1.50 on Sundays when the paper includes store advertisements and coupons. The Sunday paper has a general news section, business, life/living, classifieds, homes for sale, comics, etc. You can have just the Sunday paper delivered or you can get it all week. They deliver to your home.
The Urbana Daily Citizen is a small town newspaper published once daily, with a small Sunday edition. The cost of the paper is about $0.50 each and is available at various locations throughout Urbana and the surrounding communities. The coverage specializes in local stories and photos but also includes regional, state, national, and international news stories. Comics are a daily feature; every week there is a tv guide in the paper. Also, it is a good place to run your classified ad. You can do it with a photo or without.
Guild Galleries Interiors and Gifts is locally owned and operated by a small staff, including the owners. It is the kind of store that you can wander in and never see everything. The store carries high quality home decor, including furniture, rugs, paintings, candles, etc. One of the owners (a husband and wife) specializes in interior design and can be very helpful with your selections. The parking is limited (only on-street with a 2 hour limit), but worth the effort. During the holidays, they have a seasonal open house with new items and sometimes refreshments. The second floor is also open.
Business Equipment Company is associated with Kavanaugh's Office City office supply store. They used to have a branch of the Business Equipment Company in nearby Urbana, but that closed a couple years ago. It is sorely missed! The service was great and still is--they still receive orders from Urbana and deliver to the area. They have a large catalog of items which usually only take a day to receive. The prices are reasonable, and they often have sales, but no coupons!
Boldman Printing Company is located near downtown Urbana with limited parking (only on-street with a two hour time limit). They do copies and printing of envelopes, letterhead, business cards, newsletters, brochures--pretty much anything. The prices are reasonable. They also offer graduation and wedding announcements. The service is good and the staff is friendly. It does take a week or two to get your items, so be prepared! They will set it up on the computer for you or you can do it yourself and bring them in the disk.
Millers Office Supply is located near downtown Urbana. They have the basics in office supplies and can order anything else you might need. Usually items can be delivered within a day. Special order items take longer. They will deliver right to your office. It is the only office supply store in town now besides Wal-Mart, etc. It is locally owned and operated. However, some of the items in there are yellowed and look like they have been there since the 1980s. The prices are reasonable, but there are no discounts really like some of the larger online suppliers. The service is good.
Lakeland Golf Course is an average to better than average golf course that has recently expanded from a nine hole course to an eighteen hole course. They have a pro shop. Prices are reasonable (golf is so expensive in general!) on a round of golf and you can rent a golf cart if you like, but it is not really necessary as the course is a nice walk and not too draining. Sometimes they have coupons in the local phone book so look there before you go if you are a bargain hunter.
