If you have drove through East Lansing lately, you've probably seen the house-turned-business that is BA Florist on the corner of Grand River and Hagadorn. The two-story store contains a nice mix of cozy gifts and beautiful flowers.
On occassion, I have used BA Florist to create unique flower displays. They do deliver as well, like any good florist should.
The prices are reasonable, but somewhat on the fancy side ... but its nice having a world-class florist right in town. So next time you're ordering flowers for your loved one, or whoever the special person may be, check out BA Florist on Grand River.
L&L Food Centers is a locally owned chain of grocery stores that are in and around Lansing, MI. They are small, convenient, and sometimes a nice break from the larger stores like Meijer. You can get in, get your groceries, and get out in no time ... and most are open 24 hours.
They are complete with a Pharmacy, Bakery, and Meat area where they carry the tasty "Levandowski" line of meats. They often times have samples available for the meats so you can find your favorite before you even buy!
Sometimes going to Meijer and walking 8 miles to get around the store to get your groceries and such isn't appealing ... if that's the case, stop by your local L&L Food Center for a nice grocery selection at reasonable prices.
Until NCG Cinemas opened in East Lansing, Celebration Cinemas was the only theatre in Lansing that I know of that has Stadium Seating and a great movie lovers atmosphere.
Located just off I-96 in Lansing, the Michigan-based Celebration Cinemas is huge ... and has a recently-added IMAX Theater! Like any theater, Celebration has a full snack bar for your buttery popcorn fix, and they even have an arcade for the kids.
For convenience, you can purchase your tickets ahead of time online to avoid long lines once you arrive. Parking is plentyful, and the theater is located near several restaurants, including Hooters and a Texas BBQ.
A great theater, indeed!
PROS: HUGE iMax Theatre
When it came time to purchase a new car, we shopped around and ended up at Pres Kool Chevrolet in Okemos, MI. Initially, we visited the dealership and had an unpleasant experience with a female sales person who was not at all interested in gaining our business. Luckily, we decided to give them another chance a few weeks later.
The gentleman who served us the second time was very flexible, gave us a more than fair trade in value for our previous car, and knocked off quite a bit on the new car. Overall, I am very satisfied with our purchase and 2 years later, we have not had a single problem with the Previous Owned vehicle that we purchased.
Pres Kool is great, I recommend them just be picky as to who you work with.
PROS: Nice Selection of New & Used Cars
CONS: Some Sales Folks Unwilling to Bargain
When in East Lansing, if you need a quick haircut and youre a guy, head down Grand River and look for the spinning Barbers sign. Campus Barber looks like it has been on Grand River just as long as Michigan State University has. While I have seen a female barber in the shop, it is mostly aimed toward the male audience (notice the assortment of Playboy magazines in the rack for reading material as you wait).
Not only do they cut your hair, but theyll also slap some warm lather on your neck and clean up your neckline with an old-style sharp razor. Campus Barber, a great, quick way to get your hair cut on Campus.
Located in the Frandor Shopping Center is a baby and childrens furniture store called Lil Angels. My wife and I had purchased our childs furniture from Grand Rapids (Emdins USA Baby) because there wasnt a local baby furniture store in Lansing. Lil Angeles is the answer to that problem.
When we visited, it seemed as if the store was new and still getting organized, the selection was plentiful, but the store was unorganized and the sales person was very pushy. I felt as though I was visiting an Art Van furniture store, as the sales person followed us around and offered to sell everything we commented on to us at a discounted rate today only.
Good selection, but service leaves much to be desired.
PROS: Nice Selection
CONS: Pushy Sales Folks
Art Van is a Michigan furniture chain that has many showrooms, the largest of which are located in Lansing and Grand Rapids, MI. I have mixed feelings about Art Van, because as their prices are more affordable than visiting say, a Lay-z-Boy or Ethan Allen furniture store, their service is rather annoying.
The moment you enter a store, your sales person bombards you. There are normally half a dozen sales people waiting by the front door for their next unsuspecting victim. If you want to simply browse the store, you will be watched and visited by your commission-hunting sales person several times to check up on you.
Thats annoying, but the prices are reasonable. Just be sure to purchase the warranty, as sometimes their furniture seems to spontaneously fall apart after a few weeks of wear and tear.
PROS: Great Selection of Furniture
CONS: Pesky Sales Folks
When my car was having problems starting (the key wouldnt turn), I had AAA tow it to Kildea Kar Kare in Okemos, MI. They took a look, let me know that the key and tumbler had gone bad, gave me an estimate, and fixed the problem on time and on budget.
I would highly recommend them to work on your automobile. I believe the Kildea family also owns a gas station or two around Okemos. These guys know cars, and you should know them.
PROS: Fast Service, Friendly Folks
CONS: A bit Costly, But Worth it.
A few years ago, when it came time to plan a spring break trip, we looked to the travel experts at Meridian Travel in Okemos, on Grand River just past the Meridian Mall. They were very energetic to find us a great deal on a trip to Cancun, Mexico.
They booked us, laid everything out for us to understand, offered travel insurance, and helped us through every step of the way. They offered us vacations through two companies, the one that we booked with ended up meeting us at the airport, drove us to the hotel, and had information meetings to show us the best hot spots in Cancun.
We had a fantastic time, and it all started with Meridian Travel.
Next time youre shopping at the Eastwood Towne Center in East Lansing, take a few hours and catch a movie at NCG Cinemas. I believe that all of their theaters have stadium seating, which is always a plus. There is nothing worse than having to constantly dodge the woman with the huge hair sitting in front of you at a traditional seated movie house.
NCG is a very modern theater, with an exciting lobby and tons of theaters. The smell of freshly popped popcorn and candy fills the air as you enter the doors, inviting you in to take a load off and enjoy a film.
PROS: Lots of Theatres, Great Themed Lobby
