My husband and I went to Palominos based on a review in the Fort Worth Star Telegram.
This place was awful! Aside from being so packed you couldn't turn around, the air conditioning must have been out because the place was sweltering.
We went through the lines and saw food just being slopped from cooking pots into the serving trays with no regard about whether something was being tossed into another server.
Food was overcooked or undercooked. I was entirely disappointed in this place. In fact, after just a few bites, my husband called the manager and told him this place pretty much was disgusting. The manager led us to th cashier who promptly gave us our money back. We then went to the Bennigans right next door for a meal we could REALLY enjoy.
Palominos was extremely busy, but it just goes to show you how big the All You Can Eat craze is. People will not hesitate to pay good money for crap!
CONS: Far too many to list.
The Schezuan Restaurant in Fort Worth is good when you want a quick Chinese lunch.
The Schezuan Beef is superb - I always ask for it extra spicy because I am hot stuff - hahaha. The Mu Shu Pork is also outstanding as is the Orange Chicken. I have friends that swear their spicy green beans are the best too.
The lunch soups are Hot and Sour, Egg Drop and Wonton. Since I don't like Egg Drop, I waver between the two. Both are excellent.
Egg rolls cost extra, but are worth it. You can get a great lunch with hot tea and an egg roll for under $6.00.
Speak slowly when talking to the watiresses as they have brought me mild dishes when I asked for extra spicy. They are quick to fix any mistakes tho.
Check it out if you are ever in the Fort Worth area.
PROS: GREAT fresh Chinese food with quick service
CONS: Waitresses are not fluent in English...
Normally, my hubby takes my truck to a friend of ours who owns an oil change/car wash, but since he's been working like a dog, there are some things I've got to do myself.
Since I work in the Cultural District in Fort Worth, I decided to take my car to the Layne's Monticello Texaco for an oil change. Layne's is one of those gas stations that still locally owned and even has a full service station - how odd is that!?
Anyway, the guys that work here are older and don't have much of a personality, but they got my truck done in less than a half hour and didn't over charge me for the convenience. For less than $30, I am set for another 3,000 miles. Or 5,000, because I usually forget about these things...LOL.
PS - They would get five stars if the technicians were cuter...just kidding!
PROS: Quick oil changes for less than the chain places
CONS: Dirty - very much a MAN place
Baseball fans - UNITE!!!
If you are a baseball fan (I am) and hate spending big bucks for crummy seats and even crummier parking, check our the Fort Worth Cats team
Located close to downtown Fort Worth, this ball park is fairly intimate. The food is cheap, parking is CLOSE and the games are fun! When the game is over, you can get autographs from the players, who will even take a few minutes to chat.
A great place for a cheap date or even a big family outing!
PROS: Fun night, CHEAP outing!
A few weeks ago, I went to the Dallas Arboretum over the weekend with a group of ladies for the final days of Dallas Blooms, and have to say, this place is gorgeous!
It was the perfect day to walk through all these gardens and water areas - very soothing! There were lots of folks talking photos of their kids or wedding photos. The breeze was blowing - it was SO nice! There are lots of beautiful flowers in bloom and lush grasses swaying in the breeze - and LOTS of trees!
I would encourage you to visit the Dallas Arboretum, take a picnic lunch and take your shoes off and run your toes through the grass. The little prairie-style village is an intersting place to learn about those brave Texas Pioneers too!
PROS: Wonderful place for a picnic
CONS: Can get crowded - bad if you have allergies
Sometime, to get away from the STRESS of my job, I take my lunch and my journal and went to the Fort Worth Botanic Gardens.
This place is incredibly beautiful. There are different area like the Rose Garden, Fragrance Garden, Japanese Garden and more to enjoy. There are charming water areas, picnic areas and benches for sitting and watching people.
The best thing about the FW Botanic Gardens is that they are FREE!!
I say check it out! And don't forget your picnic lunch!
PROS: Excellent place to meditate or picnic
CONS: Can get growded in the summer
I had the pleasure of visiting the El Paseo Mexican Restaurant recently for a co-worker's birthday lunch. I gotta say - not bad!
The chips and salsa are yummy. I love salsa and could eat it with a spoon if they'd let me!
I had the Tortilla Soup for lunch. This was a HUGE bowl of chicken based soup with squash, corn, carrots, celery and more topped with thin tortilla strips and lots of Monterrey jack cheese. Large enough to fill you up for lunch, I highly recommend it!
Other friends had fajitas and carne guizada which were both hits at the table. The tortillas are homemade - not out of a bag - which makes them FABULOUS!
It's a little bit of a drive from the office, but if you are in the area, check out El Paseo!
PROS: Everything! It's fab Mexican food!
CONS: A long drive
The Ridgmar Farmer's Market isn't just a great place to buy fresh, local fruits and vegetables, it's also a great place to find plants, flowers and even to have lunch!
I have found wonderful fresh herbs like rosemary and thyme here. They have fresh onions - little ones that are perfect for a sandwich - potatoes, green beans, melons, strawberries - so much stuff! I always go overboard when I go here. I just love fresh veggies! And it's all locally grown in Texas!
There is also a little barbecue joint inside that serves up an inexpensive lunch. Whether you eat in or get it to go, the portions are large and the food is good old home cooking good! The little ladies in there always toss in a little extra cornbread, etc... they are so SWEET!
If you are ever in the Ridgmar area, check out the Farmer's Market!
PROS: Fresh Texas produce
CONS: Customer service is sometimes lacking.
I was at St. Andrews for a Craft Fair recently. Although the craft fair was a bust for most of the vendors there, the church members seemed to be genuine and a little upset that their fair wasn't quite as good as hyped.
The SE Branch of the Arlington Public Library is really hopping now! It's finally full of books and movies and computers - plenty of things that make the library a fun place to go!
I found a lot of obscure works that would normally be found only at the Central library, and they are very very good at getting items you request in as soon as possible. Plus, it's right in the neighborhood!
PROS: A great place to spend the afternoon
