Maggies Art & Drafting Supply is a cozy little shop that specializes at art supplies. I've gone there on my way to pick up my son from school to pick up crafty papers, scissors and pencils. They always have very hospitable personal working there. Prices are normal - not discount prices offered at places like Pearl Art Supply or Amsterdam Art. But then I understand it because competetion is low in the mid peninsula area.
What a wonderful place to go with your children to make art. Create It is a nice little shop where you can create your own pottery masterpiece and take it home later on. You can paint anything that your heart desires and the people working there can help you in any task. I have taken my kids there and they have loved every moment of pottery painting. We own quite a lot of pieces right now!!! I hoighly recomend Create It to any family looking for a fun activity
Tekaid Company in Belmont is one of the only stores in the area that sell art supplies. They also sell lorganizational supplies - like if you need to re-organize your storage space.
I mostly shop there for art supplies and even though i have already purchased at least one of everything that they have, I really wish that they would stock up on some of the basics like paints and crafty paper - something that i have hard time finding in this area.
You just have to try the tofu dishes at the Joy Restaurant. You would never imagine those are tofu - they are so flavorful and tasty, so fregrant and moist - nothing like the tofu you make at home. I live the soups at the Joy Restaurant as well - but the tofu is my favorite.
The prices at the Joy Restaurant are comparable to any other asian restaurant in the city. the location is great because it is located on the beach park blvd - and overlooks a great looking neighborhood.
The company that I work with has taken our group to the bowling alley and I have therefore had a chance to eat food at the Bel Mateo Snack Bar. I thought the selection was very good for the bowling alley and the prices were pretty low. Since each of us had to pay for our own food - I found the prices to be on the low side and after buying snacks and soda - I was only $15 short. I did enjoy the fact that the snack bar was pretty close by to the bowling lines.
Hot Wok Cafe is a sweet little chinese restaurant in foster city. it does offer healthy alternatives to the chinese food and you do not need to load up on the transfatty acids and high-coloesterol food when having a satisfying dinner. I love the sweet and sour soup - it is hot enough but not too spicey to overwhelm the pallete. I also like the sweet and sour chicken - it must be the best in foster city!
i highly recomend this little hole-in-the-wall for lunch or dinner.
Rickshaw Corner Restaurant, located in the mall with an Alertson's, offers really fast chinese food but the quality is HORRIBLE! The only good-tasting dish is the specialty fried sweet and hot chicken (i can't remember the exact name of it but i gave a pretty good description right here.) All other dishes taste blend and tasteless. But even the good dish is too fatty, too sweet and too greesy. The prices are low (about $5 for a to-go-box of a decent size.) the line is usually long during dinner times.
i think the food must be very high on the transfatty acids (please, DO NOT consume more then 2g per day.)
Lotus Garden Restaurant is a very nice local restaurant that specializes at Indian food. It has to be the best indian restaurant in the area. I really love the bread naans (i think that is what they are called) that they serve there and i love ALL the curry dishes - especially the red curry dishes. I also highly recomend the soups (i like all of them!)
Spa Studio in San Mateo is the only spa in this area that I have visited this year. It is really luxurious - and you get the best skin care treatment there is! I like to go there with my mom - we both enjoy it tramendiously and will gladly go back to Spa Studio again and again because of their services! Highly recomend this
I have gone to this salon once only when I was shopping for kids clothes in burlingame. I have set up an appointment in advance and didn't have to wait in a long line, the way I usually have to in most salons. I got a decent cut and cannot complain about. The price of the cut was higher then what I usually pay but I assume it is becasue of the neighborhood - most things in Burlingame are high priced.
