I'm not that into dolls, but this looked like an interesting shop. The prices are a bit high, but no doubt it's due to the homemade nature of the dolls themselves. The owner is a nice, friendly lady who's willing to help you find what you need.
If you're a collector, you'll likely love this place. All others: it's worth a visit, at least.
PROS: Friendly, helpful owner.
CONS: I'm not actually into dolls all that much!
This gas station/hardware shop has a wide variety of parts for mechanical and DIY endeavors. The staff is friendly and fairly helpful. I had to find a bulb for flashlight bases of my Star Wars lightsaber, and the cashier at the front was more than willing to help me look for one.
The prices are high, but that's because it's a Mom n' Pop shop. The customers here are customers for life. There's a definite sense of small-town politics and community.
PROS: Friendly, helpful staff.
CONS: Somewhat high prices.
The prices are a bit high, but Kim has a wide variety of hair for DIY weaves and dreads. The hair runs the gamut from high-quality to low-quality. Kim herself is chatty and friendly. She's very helpful if you're looking for something in particular.
Parking is easy. A police station is nearby, on the campus of local Columbia College.
PROS: Nice selection. Friendly service.
CONS: A bit high. Not a wide color selection.
They have a fun rock climbing wall--I'm afraid of heights, and even I had a great time scaling it. They also have a fun go-kart track. Racing against friends and family is a blast.
Their arcade is OK. The best part is their DDR machine--one of the few, if not the only, in the mid-state. A lot of skilled players come here to show up for the teeming masses. I try to avoid the rush so I can play at my leisure.
The prices are a bit high, but it's still good for parties or an excursion out for a good itme.
PROS: The DDR machine rocks my socks.
CONS: HARD TO FIND. It's hidden very well.
This place is very fun! It's a bit expensive, but the arcade is nice. They have Pump It Up, a DDR clone that uses diagonal arrows. They also have a wide variety of fighting games and racing simulators.
Their best two features are the go-carts and their laser tag arena. The laser tag playing area is magnificent. It's built up in tiers, so you and your team can plant snipers up above. I've had a lot of fun playing laser tag at Frankie's.
This is a fun little spot, if a bit pricey. Highly recommended!
PROS: Awesome laser tag arena! Pump It Up!
CONS: A bit pricey. The go-karts are too hot to ride in the summer.
This is a fun little bowling alley. Nothing really stands out in my mind--the shoes didn't smell too bad, the lanes were ordinary, and I actually managed to find a bowling ball I could heft.
Their fried pickles--if they still have them--are delicious. They're kind of spicy; kind of crunchy. Don't eat too many, though, or you'll get a stomachache.
The prices are reasonable and the game is fun. A nice little place to go for an evening out with friends.
PROS: Fun! Fried pickles are delcious.
CONS: Nothing serious. It was a pretty average place.
These people really helped me out. I had some strange virus on my PC; I took it to them during my lunch hour, dropped it off, and had it back in two days. Even better: it worked wonderfully when I got it back!
One problem I had: I had Windows 98 still installed (hey, I'm slow to upgrade!). They uninstalled Win98 and installed WinXP. Many of my programs had problems afterward. I wish they had consulted me first.
Nevertheless, they helped me out a lot. The price was reasonable, and the staff was friendly.
PROS: Friendly staff. Good service.
CONS: They installed WinXP on my Win98 machine!
My dad likes guns; I just buy gifts for the man. The staff is very helpful! I had the specifications of the bullets and powder, and they helped me find what I needed. The selection looks to be pretty good--I know my dad shops here all of the time!
The prices seem pretty average, but I don't really have much to go on here!
Recommended, if only for the help from the staff and the shooting range.
PROS: Friendly, helpful staff.
CONS: High prices. Overwhelming if you're a gun newb.
If the kid you're buying for is a technophile, avoid this shop. If they enjoy traditional toys that focus more on creative play, then this is the place for you.
Unfortunately, most kids I know like techno-toys. Therefore, this shop wasn't much use to me. The prices, too, are bit high. But I can see where this place would fill a need.
PROS: Interesting toys. Fills a need.
CONS: No technology-based toys. Kind of pricey.
They have an amazing selection of videogames--basically, all of the Japanese imports you'd normally have to order offline. Before DDR had been released to the USA, they had Japanese imports for sale.
Their prices are a little high, but that's mainly due to rarity and import value. They also sell normal, domestic games; honestly, though, you can find them cheaper elsewhere.
I love this shop, though, if only because it fills a great niche need in the Columbia area. And the staff is nice.
PROS: Nice staff. Great selection. Japanese imports!
CONS: High prices, mostly due to rarity.
