San Francisco, CA
I've heard and read (on insider pages) really good things about this place, so it was even more disappointing that a) the woman who was supposed to do a French Manicure hardly spoke any English, to the extent that she didn't understand what I said b) she didn't even file the nails into a nice shape, I constantly had to watch and correct her c) the underside of my nails were cleaned so thoroughly, that in fact, one of my fingers started bleeding d) her first attempts at painting the white tip were more than awful, so I decided to just forget about the french manicure and just do a polish e) after I told her that I'd like to get another color she just nodded and started applying the french pinkish one ... that was the point I gave up. $18 for a french manicure, just because I get sparkling wine (not champagne!) served with it, no thank you. I certainly won't go back.
PROS: different 'cutsie' environment, you get sparkling wine or tea
CONS: any of the cheap places in the haight do a better job
