I have been to three or four birthday parties where the cake was from Copenhagen and have purchased a few baked goods there as well. The baked goods are okay, nothing special. The people that have purchased birthday cakes from Copenhagen have told me they "don't care what the cake tastes like" and have purchased cakes there because they are more upscale than a cake from Costco or Safeway (my preference). The last cake I had from there was very interestingly designed -- they had decorated it to look like a sand dune and the purchaser added (or just bought) his own Star Wars action figures to put on top of the cake. It was a different and striking look, but the cake was only okay so if you are interested in interesting or upscale looking cakes this is a fine place, but for cakes with more flavor, you might look somewhere else.
I have been in a group meeting at the Prolific Oven weekly for about 9 mos. now. They are very receptive to having groups there. I have had many of the baked goods there but even though they are rated "best bakery" by some local paper, I found their baked goods to be rather tasteless. The coffee drinks are good, however, and the hours are great so it is a nice place to go after dinner or for meetings.
PROS: good hours and location
CONS: no food other than baked goods
We have been going to the Millbrae Pancake House for many years and have always been happy with our experience. It can get crowded on the weekend, but it is a very large venue so the wait isn't too long. I always get the blueberry pancakes which are very good, and a huge portion. We have also had lunch there and the sandwiches are good, typical diner fare. The service is outstanding.
PROS: large venue, good selection of breakfast and lunch
CONS: popular, so it can get crowded
I went to Natalie recently for a manicure and eyebrow wax. The manicure was standard, not amazing, just the usual, but the waxing wasn't very good. I had a fine experience while I was there, but when I left I realized my eyebrows didn't match! It looked like I did them myself (poorly!). So I wouldn't go back for waxing but the nail part was fine.
I have had my hair cut from Adeline at Hair Horizon for many years and she always gives me an amazing cut. You can just walk in and get anyone, but it is worth calling and making an appointment with Adeline (she is the only one they'll take appointments for) because of the great haircut she gives. They are not open on Tuesdays.
I had a haircut from Terry (the founder? of Barberia) and at the time I wasn't very excited by it -- it appeared to do just the opposite of what I liked my hair to do. However, I have long hair and haven't had another haircut since -- a few months later -- and now my hair looks great. So I would recommend this business. It's better if you have a haircut that looks okay right away but better as it grows in than one that looks great for one day and then horrible later on.
I have been in the Broadcasting program at SF State for a number of years now and have enjoyed every minute of it. The professors are very knowledgeable, approachable and friendly. This program especially is popular in other countries and I have had the priviledge of meeting many people from other cultures in my classes. I would recommend this school to anyone interested in a wide range of educational opportunities and a relatively (for this area) affordable program.
My oldest has gone to PRINTS for 3 years now and has thrived. I recently entered my second child into the program and I am amazed at how well he is doing after just 6 months in the program. I understand it is the only remaining Montessori school with a bilingual program in the area. We are planning on sending our youngest in the fall, and are pleased with the teachers, the school and the environment.
PROS: bilingual and Montessori education
CONS: they currently have a waiting list
I am not a fan of this yarn store, because they display their yarns in the bags they came in. I want to touch and see yarn when I'm going to a store, and this just didn't do it for me. They have a really small location, but that is no excuse for not displaying their products more appealingly. I don't see any need to go back.
This is a biker bar that is also kid friendly, if that makes any sense! It's a fun place to have a drink as well as a great burger place, and kids are welcome on the patio. The only drawback is their early closing hours (9 or 10 on weekends).
