Toys R US
Toys R Us is a store that my entire family enjoys, the adults and kids alike. I have so much fun looking at all the toys and wishing that they had those toys when I was a child. The prices are usually higher then a store like Walmart but the selection is so much bigger and better. They often have sales where you can get great bargains. They have a huge game section. The staff has always been friendly and I wish I could go here more often. Toys R Us sometimes has clearance items set out in front of their store and I have gotten a few neat things that way. I'd recommend this to anyone who has or doesn't have kids.
Rite Aid
I used to go here to get all of my prescriptions filled but after a while I quit going because they take a long time to fill them! When I went, they'd tell me it would be an hour but yet when I came back HOURS later it still wasn't ready. I understand that a lot of people go here to get their prescriptions filled but it's ridiculous. As far as other merchandise, they are a bit pricey but they have the BEST ice cream I've ever tasted. Their sales are pretty good too. The store is clean, the staff so/so.
Ross Dress For Less
It is true that Ross has some great prices but I can't stand going here that often. It's always a messy jumble of clothing and other products EVERYWHERE. They supposedly have clothes separated by sizes but when I went to look for clothing, it was all mixed up. I did buy one of my Mom's Christmas presents here, a DVD. If you want a calm shopping experience don't go here. But if you don't mind digging through lots of merchandise to find the treasure, then this is the store for you. The staff is generally friendly but often don't really know what they're doing. This store is close to the Target Superstore in Rosedale.
Regal Ua East Hills 10
United Artists is not one of my favorite places to see movies but it is a good one to go to if you want to avoid crowds. It's one of the older ones left in Bakersfield and it usually isn't always as crowded. They have two concession stands but usually only one is open. The staff if always friendly and ready to point you in the right direction to your movie. This is located in the East Hills Mall so after your movie, you can go shopping.
Regal Bakersfield Stadium 14
Edwards Stadium is one of my favorite places to go to in Bakersfield to see movies. It's VERY clean and there are a lot of rooms to see movies. The lobby is beautiful and they have bathrooms upstairs and downstairs. The concession stand is always kept neatly. You buy your popcorn and then put your own butter type stuff on it, along with salt if you want any. Movies are cheaper if you go to them during the day and the staff is always ready to help and direct you to where you want to go. After you're done with your movie, you can visit the rest of the shops in the marketplace.
John's Incredible Pizza Co
John's Incredible Pizza is located on Rosedale Highway. I've been there several times over the years and I enjoy it. The only thing I really don't like is their prices. The prices are higher on the weekends and at dinner time so I recommend going during the week for lunchtime. They don't have that many games that are good for younger kids. They have rooms that you can rent for a party. When you go there to eat, you can chose to sit in the sports bar area, a kids room, or a woodsy type room. I like the selection of pizza, especially the alfredo pizza. They have a pasta/salad/dessert bars. You can buy tokens to play games and then redeem your tickets for prizes.
Sonic Drive-in
This Sonic is located on 23rd Street which is a very busy street. It's right next to a Jack In The Box and close to a bank. I've gone here a few times and have always had a positive experience. You can park your car, order your food and eat in your car, eat outside at one of their tables or just go through the drive thru. I usually just go through the drive thru and get one of their yummy slush's. They have some of the best slush's in town and have good prices. I've never had to wait that long at their drive through. Their burgers aren't my favorite but they do still taste good. The staff has always been friendly when I've placed my order.
Costco
Costco is a huge store that you can get easily lost in. I don't mean lost as in you have no idea where you are but lost as in WOW, look at all this stuff. You could spend hours looking at all their merchandise, They have it all! I have a large household and it's important for me to buy in bulk to get the best deals as I can. Not only do they have lots of merchandise for sale, they also have a pharmacy, and a place where you can buy glasses, hearing aid center, and a place where you can buy pizza! Plus they have a gas station at the side of the store that is usually always cheaper then any other the other gas stations in the area. Since Costco is such a wonderful place, it's often busy. Try not to go during the peak hours (lunch time, weekends, and evenings) and you'll be fine. The store is always clean, the staff is usually helpful and I'd recommend this store to anyone.
LifeWay Christian Store-CLOSED
Berean is the main Christian bookstore in Bakersfield that you'll want to go to if you are looking for religious books/movies/music/misc products. They have a wide selection and the store is always clean, well stocked, and the staff very friendly and helpful. I have gotten many books here and the prices are average. Around the holidays they have any seasonal religious items you may need. They have stuff that you can buy for Sunday School, etc. They often have sales that will save you some money.
Barnes & Noble Booksellers
Barnes and Noble has it all. They have tons of books, movies and music as well as a coffee shop! I love spending time here but it's a little depressing because I can't afford to take all the books home with me. :) They have a good selection and if you can't find what you want, you can go to the help desk and order it and they'll contact you when it comes in. The children's section is pretty good size as well as the magazine section. They have calendars, bookmarks, pens and more. If I could spend all day here, I honestly would. The staff is friendly, the store clean and has a very friendly feel.
