Eleven East cafe is a nice little addition to the growing Glassboro downtown. They offer a great cafe atmosphere and really embrace all aspects by offering an adjoining used book store, and often present local bands & poetry. Great environment, wish I got to go more often
Honestly, PBs is nothing special. I don't know why, but it never had that cool diner feel to it. If you want late night you wind up going to Five Points or Liberty, and if you want awesome hometown diner you go to Angelos. PBs is just lost in the mix.
Monday and wednesday nights they do $1 games, $2 shoe rental (or something close to that), which is a very good deal for a night of fun. Cosmic bowling is a great time as well. This bowling alley is now accepting the Rowan card debit dollars so they are getting on the ball with the college crowd. Walking distance from the dorms for freshmen w/o cars
PROS: Walk here from Rowan, cheap deal nights on M/W
I would never bring my little kid to funtime america. That being said, they do have a good selection of arcade games in an era where arcade games are getting harder and harder to find. They also have a great deal on all-night lazer tag, one of the best lazer tag place I have ever seen. Great if you have a kid bouncing around that's 14-15 years old.
PROS: Lazer tag for young teens, good arcade games
CONS: not taken care of enough to take a small child
I first went to Marvin's Haircuts with Style by accident my freshmen year at Rowan University. It was a little intimidating because as an average white kid I did not realize Marvin's was primarily an african american barbershop, but they seemed to have decent business so I figured it must be good.
I got my hair cut there that day, and was sitting in the chair as the barber went over my hair again and again, I was thinking wow why is this haircut taking so damn long. The answer? It was the BEST HAIRCUT I have EVER had. The guys at Marvin's weren't slouching and taking their time, they were giving my head the ultimate treatment. Wow, I have probably gone to marvin's 5 or 6 times after that before I graduated. Whenever I needed a haircut and was stuck down at school, that place got my business, and I try to send as many people their way as I can. The guys there are really friendly and do an amazing job.
PROS: Best haircut I have ever had in my life
Starland Ballroom is an excellent concert venue that fills the void of what Birch Hill used to be. They book the best in punk/ska shows, and if you know what to expect from one of these shows then there is no other place to be. For those that are 21 there are roped off areas to escape the madness when you need a breather
I have always loved Bridgeway Diner. It seems to keep changing management, and with the most recent changes it has had its hours expanded so that I can eat its delicious food later at night now. However, I don't think the other reviewer is correct in stating 24 hours. The second to last time I went they had a special menu insert where they would mix a variety of meals into a french fries bowl. I got slices of chicken parm mixed with their great fries, topped with spaghetti sauce. Man that was delicious, but last time I went back they didn't have the fry menu. Bring back that delicious option bridgeway and you get 5 stars!
Wow, I used to deliver pizza for Carlo's Gourmet back when I was a senior in high school. WOW, these guys will put ANYTHING on pizza, and surprisingly they really make it work. The regular pizza and subs are good, but you have not lived until you've had any one of these pizza toppings: barbecue sauce & chicken, chiken parm, baked ziti, spaghetti and meatballs, vegetable medley.
I am almost positive the place has changed ownership at least once since I stopped working there, but I stopped in and they are still making the same great variety of gourmet pies. If you don't see something or have a crazy idea, then ask! I bet you they will throw any meal or food item you can think of on a pizza pie and just charge you for a similar pie if you ask right, they're awesome like that.
PROS: Pizzas you've never thought of tasting before
Honestly I have never been a fan of taco bell, and it has been the butt of many jokes on my end, but a friend dragged me here last month. I have to say, the crunchwrap supreme is something that was not on the menu when I went years ago. This menu item is simply delicious. They also had a chicken caesar salad in a soft taco shell which looked amazing, but I think it may have been limited time only
PROS: Menu has gotten a lot better in recent years
CONS: It's still taco bell
My parents never liked this place when I was growing up, but I cannot understand why. My fiance and I have to chinese food favorites: fried dumplings, and egg rolls. Chung Sing by FAR has the best recipe for both of these items I have ever tasted.
The only knock I can think of on this place is that the lunch buffet is pretty small. However, the restaurant is not primarily a buffet, and theirs literally has every type of chinese food I like, and none of the ones I skip at larger buffets, so its really not an issue here. It will cost you 2 or 3 bucks less and you're only missing out if you want the crazy exotic asian food.
PROS: Great recipes for certain items. Cheaper buffet
CONS: Buffet only has about 12 selections, all good stuff but nothing exotic
