Last year I attended a wedding that Lisa Lefkowitz took pictures of, and her photographs came out beautifully ? the lighting was perfect, the scenery too. Her portraits really accentuate the best features of her subjects. She is a very pleasant, very professional woman, and a very talented and detail-minded artist.
PROS: Personable photographer, classy pictures
This is an elegant North Beach bakery specializing in Italian pastries and authentic Italian coffee. The tiramisu here is wonderful ? not too bitter and not to sweet. The Italian cookies are delicious, too, and there are a lot to choose from. They also have gelato, which I haven?t tried yet. Everything looks and tastes authentic.
PROS: Wide variety, authentic
Stella Pastry Caffe, located in North Beach, has a huge variety of Italian pastries, all of which are delicious. The pignoli cookies here are delicious! The service is exquisite, but what?s best is their sacripantina - Italian sponge cake ? if you?re ever in North Beach and in the mood for sweets and carbs, you should find this place.
PROS: Authentic Italian pastry
CONS: Not cheap
This is a rustic bakery in North Beach that makes the best Italian French sourdough bread I?ve ever had. If only I lived closer to North Beach ? I?d pick up a loaf for myself every week! The bakery also makes and serves other breads, rolls, and pastries, and awfully decadent croissants.
PROS: Delicious pastries!
CONS: Lots of carbs!
This bakery has incredibly fresh-baked sourdough bread. It also serves soup ? clam chowder ? in a sourdough bread bowl for lunch, which is also delicious and classic. The service is here is great, the staff is very friendly, and the restaurant is bright and classy, and tends to get crowded during the lunch hour.
PROS: Great bread + soup combo, classic SF food
CONS: Crowded at times
This is a popular Pacific Heights Bakery specializing in French pastries. I?ve found great quiches here, which is notable because I usually hate quiches, and they have great sandwiches. But their almond croissants are absolutely, hands down the best thing they have, and well worth the amount of cholesterol they harbor. So good.
PROS: Amazing pastries
The decor at Teacake Bake shop is girly and cute but not overly so, as are the pastries. Everything here is immaculately decorated down to the plate of cookies in the window. Their pastries are pretty good, but the decorations are what's best. They have great gift ideas here, too.
PROS: Pretty decor, good products
CONS: A bit difficult to get to, with all the construction going on.
Small Frys in Noe Valley has a great, upscale atmosphere and has an amazing variety of affordable 100% cotton children's clothes and toys. It has lots of trendy items but has classics too, like Oshkosh jumpers. I always find something unique here for my niece, like supersoft onesies with adorable screenprints.
PROS: Great selection, high quality clothing
Pumpkin boutique in Presidio Heights is filled with trendy, high quality children?s clothes from the likes of Juicy Couture and Joe?s Jeans. The salespeople here were very helpful and not pushy at all, and they had great suggestions. If you?re looking for the best designer clothes for your girl, this is a great store to look if she?s twelve or under.
PROS: Enthusiastic salespeople, high quality merchandise
This Pacific Heights children's boutique is absolutely adorable and perfect for the chic child. Geared towards stylish children?s playclothes, it carries tons of supersoft designer children?s clothes and a large selection of the French kids? line Petit Bateau. I found an adorable striped shirt (size 6a) here for my niece that I couldn?t find anywhere else.
PROS: Adorable clothing, great selection
CONS: A bit pricey
