Fairmount Antique Mall is great fun to visit. They have a wide variety of items in terms of quality, price and style. For the most part, their prices seemed very reasonable. I did see a few items with price tags that floored me, but they were certainly the exception. Very friendly and pleasant staff/owners. I live 15 miles north of Fort Wayne, and it is worth the drive!
This shop is a BLAST to visit if you love vintage advertising pieces. They have a huge inventory of items in this category.... the best variety that I have seen anywhere. The shop also has quite an eclectic mix of other collectables and antiques including vinyl records, vintage clothing, and toys. After my first visit, I am definitely a regular customer.
Antiques on Broadway is a very interesting place to visit. A wide variety of styles and prices are represented... something for everyone. Prices are generally fair to quite good. This shop is a pleasure to visit, just to see the attention and care with which everything is displayed. Very nice.
This shop is also called the "Antique Mega-Mall" and not without reason! It is a HUGE building filled nearly front to back with a wide variety of dealers. There are many good deals to be had, and overall the prices are fair. There's something for everyone at this mall... I visit on a fairly regular basis and I would say that the "interest factor" is definitely going up -- instead of down -- which is a welcome change of pace. Although there are some dealers with "collectibles" that do not in any way qualify as antique, valuable, or even interesting, there is plenty here to hold the attention of true antique lovers (including the regular addition of new inventory!), from smalls, to rustic garden items, to primitives, to furniture. It is well worth a visit.
Blah, what a let-down this place was after seeing some real, quality, interesting things a little farther north! Although there were a few dealers with nice items, this store is overwhelmingly filled with collectibles, reproductions, and new items. The vintage items they have are generally of the cheaper variety and not all that interesting. This store would be a big disappointment to antique snobs. You know who you are. :)
I love Michiana Antique Mall for its overwhelming size and variety! It is a huge, warehouse-type building, all on one floor, and you can easily get lost in there looking around. The quality and variety of the things they have is *wildly* variable (that means there is something for everyone here!), but they have done an excellent job in excluding the "junque" dealers. Michiana Antique Mall has all sorts of things from all periods to see, everything from ephemera to fine porcelain. It is a must-see if you are in the area!
A very large shop covering two floors. There is a small cafe in the back which was not open when I visited. There is a lot to see in this shop and I would say it is a mixed bag in terms of quality, with most of the items more towards the "vintage" rather than the "antique" end of the spectrum. Prices are very reasonable, and it is a very fun place to visit just for the variety of things that they have. The upstairs is all artsy-craftsy stuff, which I did not spend more than two seconds looking at.
This is a multi-dealer shop covering two floors in the old part of town. I just love this shop for the care they take in choosing their items! You won't find any attic junk in here, NO sir. All real antiques, artfully displayed, with a preponderance of primitive and country things. When I visited in September 2007, the upstairs section was largely empty so hopefully they will get more dealers. I live near Fort Wayne and it is definitely worth the 2-hour drive!
I have five dogs and Pet Supplies Plus has become the ONLY place I will go for dog food. This store has the absolute best variety of any pet supplies store I have ever visited and their prices are very competitive. If you're interested in the actual pets themselves, they have only a very limited number of them.
Although this store is physically very attractive and interesting to visit, I found the prices to be extraordinarily high on dry dog food. I was comparison shopping on the particular brand that I use -- Diamond. I spot checked their prices on other supplies as well, which also seemed high. Based on what they were asking for Diamond dog food versus what I can get it for right down the road, I don't know how they stay in business.
