I was very impressed. I went there to purchase an african violet for my desk at work and at checkout the cashier asked me if it was my first one. I told her yes and she kindly explained how I shouldn't get any moisture on the leaves or petals of the plant when I'm watering it or it will die. She tastefully offered some helpful products but I politely declined them. Even though my purchase came to less than $5, the service was excellent. She wasn't too pushy and offered me some valuable plant care advice :)
I knew I would be disgusted and saddened by the pet shops condition but I went in anyway. As usual there was the following..
1. Puppies from puppy mills kept behind glass.
2. Over crowding in the bird and small animal cages. (rabbits in small aquariums)
3. Murky water and dead fish floating in the aquariums.
4. The pungent stench of feces and urine.
5. Not enough employees working to manage all the animals.
Yuck :( But what really stuck out to me were the rats. On their cages they had signs that said either, "MOSTLY MALES" or "MOSTLY FEMALES." There was also a cage with a rat with a litter of babies. Then one cage charged $2 for a bunch of rats but the rest were almost $13...
So I found who I assumed to be one of the managers and politely asked her a couple of questions. "Do you encourage breeding in your store? I'm asking because of the signs on the rat cages." Her reply was, "Some people are stupid and mix them around." I asked her if she was referring to the customers and she said yes. I asked if the employees tried to prevent that. She said no. She also said that they're so busy once the shipments of the new animals come in that sometimes the rats get mixed up.... but she once again mentioned the "stupid people." I told her I could relate having worked at a pet store myself before(meaning with the mischievous customers). Her reply? ...She snottily answered with, "Then why are you asking the question?" LOL I told her the place I had employment at had all male or all female stores. She didn't like that answer. Finally she told me that the cheap rats were old so they were trying to get rid of them. I thanked her for her time and she sarcastically said goodbye to me.
Not to mention there were products covering almost every inch of the store... it looked messy and uninviting.
It was a poor experience overall but I could not believe how rude the worker was to me.
I actually found what I was looking for... a harness for my own dog but put it back. I REFUSE to support such a disgraceful, cruel, chaotic store.
