Cafe Chaat

I have 3 words to remember when going tot Chaat Cafe at 3rd & Folsom - "Tandoori Chicken Sandwich". HEAVEN - incredibly delicious (what's not to like about a sandwich that uses naan as the bread and fantastic, moist chicken). It's substantial and cheap.

Also, the $5 lunch specials are usually really good, plenty of food. Can't beat the value.

Pediatric Wellness Group Inc - Amita Saxena, MD

The Pediatric Wellness group was formed by two fabulous pediatricians who used to be part of KidKare Associates in Redwood City (Drs. Niki Saxena and Dr. Eileen Chan). Dr. Eileen has been our kids' pediatrician since they were born - and we've also seen Dr. Niki before too. They both rock. They are so good with the kids, they always take plenty of time answering questions my wife and I have, and they really care about the health and development of our children. Dr. Eileen is a clearly a great mom herself - she's given us lot of great (solicited) parenting advice too.

I'd strongly recommend this practice.

J & J Tire Company

I found J&J Tire on InsiderPages and decided to try them out since they are right near my office. Called day before and told them I needed 2 new tires for my prius. They gave me options for the tire over the phone and pricing. I dropped off the car at 9am the next day on the way into work. There was no wait and no back-up. I think you can often just drive on in without an appointment. They said I was welcome to wait for about an hour while they replaced the tires and did the alignment. I opted to come back in the afternoon and pick it up which was fine. They were quick and thorough and explained everything to me when I picked it up. Pricing was much lower than at Toyota 101. Their tire price was $30 per tire cheaper and alignment was $60. I'll go back

Zero Zero

If you can manage to get a reservation on a Saturday night Zero Zero is a lot of fun for a group of people. We had a party of four and were seated upstairs right on time. Pork belly appetizer with the softboiled egg and polenta was really, really good. Casareccia with short rib ragu was the standout entree. Both pasta dishes we got were good even though they weren't the ones with the house made pasta. We also got one of the famed zero zero pizzas but found it to be a bit undercooked and soggy. not crisp thin crust pizza. Great wine selection - we enjoyed a great Valipollicella (can't remember spelling of that). Service was good, ambiance really fun. I'd go back. Best with friends so you can order up family style.

Bisou

I would have loved to been able to report that my experience at Bisou was 5 star but it just wasn't there. Chouchou used to be one of my favorite restaurants in SF because I loved the chef / partial owner. He left Chouchou and now spends all his time at Bisou - so was hoping for the best. Here's my take on Bisou: Very hip and trendy in a cool setting in the Castro. Downstairs was drafty by the door which they keep open and way noisy with the music blaring from the stereo. We sat upstairs which was great at first until they ended up packing the people in there and it became unbearably hot. Literally sweating up there. They need proper AC / ventilation if they are going to seat people upstairs. Service was really quite slow- probably because they were slammed. At Chouchou there was always an extra waiter to help tag team when they got busy. They should follow suit here. Finally the food. It was good, no remarkable. Everything was really rich - seemed a bit more traditional French than chouchou was. Ahi appetizer was really tasty. Escargot was so so as was the salad. Scallops were good. Burger was good with mediocre sauce. Fish was solid. Best part was the dessert sample for two. Great presentation and very tasty.

Maybe worth a try on a not so busy weeknight but sadly I won't be going back.

Poor House Bistro

My company hosted a weekday brunch meetup with customers at the Poor House Bistro and had a really good experience. The woman who manages the business was as kind and accommodating as could be and the service was great. I had the popcorn shrimp salad and polished off 1 or 2 beignets for dessert which was heaven.

The restaurant is actually in a house. Very casual and warm. Blues and Jazz are playing in the background.

Right down the street from the Shark Tank for perfect for a pre-game meal.

Shiki Bistro

Shiki Bistro on Laurel St. is Sushi and other Japanese cuisine with a gourmet touch - set in an upscale setting. More of a place you'd go on a date before the movies and less of a place you'd bring the family (particularly given all the other good sushi places in San Carlos that are casual). My wife and I sat in one of the high back, circular table oriented towards the bar - we thought a different table arrangement would be better for actually having a conversation. Service was definitely very attentive and quick. I think they deliver on what they are trying to do, and it's worth checking out. Not likely a place I'll rush back to though because I don't love the setting enough to justify the higher price than say Ozuma down the street.

Frank K. Hsu, DDS

We've been seeing Dr. Hsu for a few years now in San Carlos. Dr. Hsu is detail oriented, professional and I love that he offers appointments at 8am.

Mc Carrick Iii, James W, Phd - Portola Valley Women's Health

Dr. McCarrick was in the practice my wife went to for the birth of our 2 children. I went with my wife to one of her routine visits prior to pregnancy and he saw us. He does a really nice job of thinking about the holistic health of the patient, not just the part directly related to the pregnancy. He noticed that my wife had a persistent cough - one that had been around for 3 months. He proactively asked her about it and prescribed her an inhaler which totally took care of it. He's got tons of experience and you just feel he's seen the movie before so he's totally prepared for anything that might come your way in a pregnancy. I would definitely recommend him.

I went to Dr. Hyver on a referral from my optometrist, but I had hear his ads on the radio as well. I must admit - I liked the fact that he is the eye doctor for the 49ers and that he's done tens of thousands of Lasik procedures. I was a little nervous about doing it but knowing so many people have had successful procedures with Dr. Hyver made it a bit easier. Dr. Hyver prides himself on being, well, anal-retentive. He's incredibly meticulous in his examination of your eyes, in determining whether he thinks Lasik is right for you, and on exactly how he's going to perform the procedure for you. This attention to detail carries over into the office, the staff and the entire patient experience. It's a very high end, high-touch business. In the free consultation you start with a thorough eye exam by one of the optometrists in the practice. Then you read all the information about the procedure, then you meet with Dr. Hyver who spends a while looking at your eyes, at your charts, and answering any questions you might have. In my case he said I'd be a great candidate for the surgery and explained how he was going to do a slightly different treatment for my left eye than my right due to an old eye injury I had had. After that another person exlained how it would all work and cost - and also gave me the prescription for antibiotic drops that I'd need prior to the surgery. Every step of the way there was an email to me reminding me to get the drops, stop wearing my glasses at the right time etc... The day of the procedure I went in, got another thorough eye exam from the optometrist to ensure nothing had changed, then the procedure took only 15 minutes. Painless and straightforward. My left eye is about where it was with glasses and my right eye is already at 20/15 less than a week later. Sweet.

I definitely trust Dr. Hyver, would recommend him unconditionally, and appreciate how professional the whole experience was.
