el Chico is in a pretty good part of town despite being a block from the University district.
You'll find that there's plenty of seating here, which is available promptly upon your arrival. The wait staff is very friendly and attentive, and the food is always delicious.
I think this is one of the better Mexican restaurants in M-town if only for the interior.
The Hippie Gypsey is what it sounds like: a smoke and paraphernalia shop.
You'll find all sorts of pipes, bongs, hookahs, you name it. It's a stoner's paradise. They also have a big selection of clothes and incense at reasonable prices.
Come if you smoke or if you just really love the smell of nag champa.
I've heard from my gay friends once before that if you want to have a good ol' gay time on the weekends, you go to Dish on Thursday, Metro on Friday, and Backstreet on Saturday.
But if you wanted karaoke throughout the week, metro's the place to be. They've got a plethora of Cher, Celine, Madonna, you name it...
Always a fun crowd, and the service is fun too. I also believe they're renovating right now, so I can't wait to be back in town to check out the new lighting!
I love this place.
The Pumping Station is a pretty cool looking place. Nice decor and nice bartenders. It's also very gay friendly. In fact, the majority of the clientele is gay.
However, it's a tad bit creepy. Not the best part of town, it's very dark and cramped, and they play porn.
Come here for the experience, but bring a buddy and some mace!
Senses boasts a big-city feel. Sure, there's lots of rooms with different ambiances, and it's uber trendy.
However, you can't stray from the fact that it is close to NOTHING. It is on the middle of Poplar and not within walking distance of any other bar or club, so if you want to leave, you're driving. Not good if you and your pals are all drunk and have to get a cab.
You're better off going to Beale.
Plus, there's some nights where they allow under 21 in the club. Sorry, kids, but it's lame to see 18-year-old girls getting hit on by 30-year-old men.
Alex's is the all night bar on the bad side of town where you go if you still want to drink.
The place is dirty, and selection is limited (I'm pretty sure there's only two kinds of beer on tap), but that's the experience.
Just be aware of your surroundings, but once inside, you should be safe.
This place has one type of fashion and one type only: club clothes.
In my opinion, no one should spend a great deal of money on their clubbing wardrobe, but if you're looking for something to wear out, go elsewhere.
The quality of these clothes are awful, almost everything in the store is polyester, and it is drastically overpriced.
But if you're in a bind downtown and the Gap just doesn't have anything promiscuous enough, this may be your place.
Red Sun is a pretty good Chinese buffet. The price is pretty reasonable for the lunch hour, and I think they do the best job of rotating the food.
Service here is always pretty attentive, as well. They make sure you're good on your drink and see to it that your check is paid as soon as you put down the cash or charge card.
You may pay a little extra at the Art Center, but they have the best selection of art supplies for serious artists, and they also have a very friendly staff who can answer all your questions.
They also have framing service. I don't take my pieces anywhere else...they do such a great job here.
This place is okay. The prices are reasonable and there's plenty of lanes.
But the appeal is that they have cosmic bowling after 10 on the weekends. You pay $10 and bowl all night under black lights.
Always lots of fun.
And as usual, they serve up beer and some liquor.
