My family and I love Lake Compounce. My kids got season passes here for the summer for a Christmas gift and were thrilled. I like it because of the size. It is not overwhelming. You can walk from one end to the other multiple times a day because it is not huge. Free soda keeps everyone hydrated with out breaking the bank, or me having to lug everyone's water bottle. They frequently add extra cars to rides to keep the lines moving. I don't care so much for the chaos of the water park, because there are too many kids to try to keep track of your own.
Captains Cove Seaport is a nice place to walk around with your family on a summer afternoon. Located on the water in Bridgeport, it is like a mini seaport village. There are a couple of places to eat, and an ice cream shop and little tiny houses painted brightly that house small merchants. It is very pleasant.
My kids love Bugaboo Creek Steak House. To me it is like a Woodsman themed 'Rain Forrest Cafe'. I find it, although not to the extent as Rain Forrest is, kitchy and distracting. I have a hard time relaxing with animated trees talking to me. The food is good, and the prices are fine, but it just isn't my kind of place.
Captains Galley really used to be the place to go for seafood, but now, I find them only average, and arrogant. The prices are good and the food is good, and some of the portion sizes are above average. They arenot however, terribly warm to their customers, and they have way too many tables crammed in together. I think their prime is behind them.
Chicks Drive Inn - when I was a teen, I used to think this was the coolest place in existance. Especially on a Saturday night with all the bikes and hot rods hanging around. Now that I have matured, I see it for what it probably has always been. I think it is entirely too greasy, overpriced, crowded drive in food across the street from a mediocre beach. Put the emphasis on pricey!
Als Hot Dog Stand is a Naugatuck landmark. It is one of those places that has withstood the test of time based on their value, consistency and quality. It is a drive-in hot dog stand, with great hot dogs, excellent onion rings and good prices. You can choose to eat inside, or outside at a picnic table. Their is always plenty of parking and fast service!
Conveniently located on White Street, T Ks American Cafe is a great place for food. It is largely considered a bar and can be noisy, but it is so totally worth it for one reason, THEIR WINGS!
These are the best wings I can find. I routinely drive 45 minutes to TK's for them. The prices are good, the service is good. The wings are great!
My kids really like to come here because the kids meals are served in a car shaped box. I think it is only average. There is nothing other than paper boxes here, that you can't get anywhere else. The last time I was in, the staff was somewhat rude to my family, kicking us out of one of their 'big booths' because we were a party of four, not five or more. We were the ONLY people in the place. They really made use switch tables. Iguess if that is how they treat guests, no wonder we weer the only ones there!
Marios Pizzeria makes a good pizza considering the competition. They are no Pepe's, but good for Naugatuck. I like their thin crust, and the sauce is very tasty, not too sweet like some other local places. Their prices are exceptional. They have the usual choices for toppings, and nothing too out of the ordinary. They also make good grinders and calzones. Parking can be a bit of a pain though.
Cutlers Records & Tapes is a New Haven landmark. In the Broadway section area, parking is generally easy to find, although you will have to pay for it. Cutlers is a bit cluttered to find your way through, but just ask a staff member to help. They are always eager to help you find what you are looking for and know music like nobody's business. They have a huge imports section, and more style of musics than some stores have ever even heard of!
