Pacific Grove Hardware has exceptional service, unfortunately, they don't always have what you need. But if you need something simple, such as a bag of nails,Pacific Grove Hardware is the place to get it.
Forget about going to your local Ace Hardware ever again! Home Depot has everything you need for your home and garden. You can find everything you need here for landscape design, gardening, home safety, plus books and magazines on home improvement and barbecuing- Weber's Real Grilling cost a fraction of what it would cost at a bookstore. They carry a large selection of grills and smokers, and accessories. This is the best place to buy Duraflame products:You can get a pack of 9 fire logs from $15-$16:and they're sold here year round-so you don't have to rush from store to store looking for the product you need. Prices on brand name appliances i.e. Whirlpool, are sold at lower prices than at Sears.
I have been seeing Dr.Bradford Carl since 1993 when I stopped going to a pediatric dentist. Also, Dr.Carl had done an orthodontic analysis one year earlier,so I started to see him. He has been treating my entire family since we moved from Silver Spring,Maryland to Monterey in March 1987. He saved my parents a fortune on my orthodontics because he did them instead of an orthodontist. Just going to Dr.Carl's office is a pleasure for me. Dr.Carl's office staff treats me the way they treat family. Double that, just coming to Dr.Carl's office is a vacation when I'm having teeth cleaned(both Jill and Jessica have always been willing to discuss my problems will they clean my teeth.) To sum it up,going to the dentist can actually be fun and relaxing. Thank you Dr.Bradford Carl!
Lens Crafters is the best optical shop in Monterey County. They have great prices on glasses and provide free adjustments and repairs for eye wear purchased in store. You can save money on your eye exam by showing your AAA card to the Vision Care Specialist assisting you. Dr.Nick Froumis and Dr.Michael Thaanum will give you a complete, thorough eye exam at Eyexam of California, which is located in the store. Most prescriptions can be ready in an hour, depending on the type of prescription you need.
PROS:Professionally trained optometrists,low prices,friendly,helpful,knowledgeable staff.
CONS:Charge for eyewear repairs and adjustments for eyewear purchased elsewhere .
You can name plenty of shop-til-you drop stores, including Costco and Wal-Mart,not to mention Home Depot and the big two Bay Area Ikeas. But Target is my favorite shop-til-you-drop store in Monterey County. I buy all my hair products at this Target store:I go there actually about once a week to buy hair care products to try out so I'll know which ones work best for me. I use a different product every day. Every time I get my haircut at SuperCuts,I stop at Target to stock up on more hair-care products.
This Barnes & Noble is the best chain bookstore in San Francisco. Their selection of books is HUGE. Subjects, for example, include biographies, business, fiction, romance, science fiction, poetry, science, history, psychology and travel. Check out their Chinese History section. Lisa Ling will be pleased. The selection of foreign and domestic newspapers and magazines is outstanding. Don't forget the HUGE selection of CDs and DVDs. There are children's books and toys, plus plenty of other unique gifts, such as canvas book bags, bookmarks and coffee mugs from the Starbucks and Cheesecake Factory Cafe. There's free parking in the garage with a validated ticket from Barnes & Noble or Cost Plus World Market. The location is beautiful with a view of the San Francisco Bay. The store's service is exceptional. If you go to the Customer Service Desk on the second floor,Michael will be there to help you. If he's busy,he'll call another employee to help you. If you're not in the mood for coffee or cheesecake, there's a Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream stand across the street on Fisherman's Wharf.Even if you don't buy anything, you'll have a good time at this Barnes & Noble.
PROS:Friendly, knowledgeable staff, large selection of everything every Barnes & Noble should carry.
Employees at The Works are unfriendly, the selection is poor, and the store is aimed to serve Pacific Grove teachers who are too lazy to drive to Borders or buy online from Barnes & Noble or Borders. If you want to buy from a local bookstore, you should check out Bookshop Santa Cruz,as well as their website(www.bookshopsantacruz.com)-it's worth it if you prefer local stores. The Works will close within the next six months. Barnes & Noble Rules and The Works drools!
I live on the Monterey Peninsula, where the only book superstore is Borders. The only independent bookstore on the Monterey Peninsula is The Works in Pacific Grove, which is pathetic,as they mostly carry gifts, and cater to teachers who live in Pacific Grove who don't want to drive to Borders or shop online at Borders or Barnes & Noble. Unlike The Works,Bookshop Santa Cruz carries a large selection of books, foreign and domestic newspapers and magazines,as well as toys and gifts for all ages. No other new bookstore in Central California has this philosophy. The store's website(www.bookshopsantacruz.com)sells all kinds of unique gifts, canvas book bags, bumper stickers, posters, key chains etc.which you can buy both in-store and online:You can't buy a lot of these things online from Barnes & Noble and Borders. The biography section is big on musicians:They have an especially large selection of books about The Beach Boys. Join their Readers' Club and if you buy 20 items in a year in-store or online, you receive a store credit for a free purchase. Try the Greek Salad in the store's cafe. If you're tired of Barnes & Noble and Borders, switch to Bookshop Santa Cruz or shop online. Don't forget about their psychology section,as well as their special events. Be sure to look for books like "Goodnight Bush"and other political satire. Just be prepared that if you go into the men's room, the mirrors have been vandalized.
PROS:Good selection of books.
CONS:Doesn't have as big a selection as Barnes & Noble and Borders. Mirrors in the men's room have been vandalized.
Seaside's Hollywood Video is the Monterey Peninsula's best movie rental store-and Hollywood Video has been voted Best Video Rental Store by the Monterey County Weekly. This is also the best Hollywood Video on the Monterey Peninsula. They carry everything on DVD you can imagine-from the latest Hollywood blockbuster to classic TV shows,no other movie rental store in Monterey County can beat Seaside's Hollywood Video.
From 1987 to 1992,a little old lady named Lee at Continental Styling Salon was cutting my mom's, my dad's,my grandma's hair and mine. I was a little kid back then. Now,twenty-one years later,I go to SuperCuts in Sand City, all the stylists can make a client's hair look like one from the salon's book of styles or like a celebrity you want to look like.
PROS:Professionally trained stylists,no long lines,in fact, all the stylists at this SuperCuts(male or female)are so good you should give all of them a chance.
