I walked into this shop on a hot day after walking up and down the main downtown strip. They had the usual selection of ice cream, but unfortunately they didn't offer any samples to taste. I settled on the strawberry cheesecake frozen yogurt after the lady recommended it, and it was quite good. She only have a single scoop in the large chocolate-dipped waffle cone, and that was slightly disappointing. I enjoyed the ice cream nonetheless.
Galena's has a great historic downtown with a bunch of sidewalk shops. Kaladi's seems like a great place to stop by for some good coffee. I ordered a double shot of espresso and it was okay, but my wife got an iced americano and didn't like it at all. The cafe was comfortable and there were quite a few people hanging out. I didn't see any other specialty coffee shops along the street, so this would be the place to go in town if you wanted something better than the coffee they would serve in other restaurants and diners on the same street.
Breitbach's is the oldest continuously-running restaurant in Iowa. Nestled among the farm fields of Iowa along the Mississippi River, the restaurant offers a country dining experience mixed with some German fare. I went one morning for a brunch with a large group of people, and we partook of the breakfast bar. They had some decent offerings, but nothing wildly deviating from the normal bacon, sausage, eggs, toast, french toast, etc. Down the sidewalk is an overlook where you can take in the Iowan farm land scenery.
This quaint hotel on the banks of the Mississippi served quite nicely for a family reunion I attended. Our group took up most of the 3 floors of the hotel that weekend. My wife and I got a room downstairs that was almost cave-like, with a small window letting in a little sunlight. If you're a demanding hotel guest this isn't the place for you, because for portions of every day there isn't someone manning the front desk; you actually have to call a number to get someone to help you out. Overall I had a good experience here and would stay here again.
This place was a cross between a Waffle House and a local bar. My breakfast of eggs, toast, and hash browns was satisfactory, but not excellent. Our service was slow, but that was because our group was pretty big. I took a look at the specials board and chuckled at the "chicken hind quarters".
So I walked into this place hoping for a decent cup of coffee, and I was taken aback when I didn't see an espresso machine or commercial drip coffee maker in sight. There were three coffees available in airpots, and I'm pretty sure the regular cup I had wasn't too far off in quality from the brew I had back at the hotel. They had a mini home espresso machine and a gas station push-button latte machine. The lady behind the counter was super-friendly, but nothing about the service could make up for the lack of decent coffee. Sorry to say I would not enjoy a cup of joe here ever.
I used to work at a place in the same shopping area. I went to lunch here every now and then and was always pleased with the food and service. The sandwiches are put together pretty well and the soup is tasty. I wish they would have a little more comfortable seating though - there aren't any booths or really comfortable chairs.
I've had DaVinci's a couple times now. The pizza is high-quality, and I like that they have several vegetarian options in their specialty pizza menu. Their website isn't that great though, and if I hadn't had them before I that would have been a turnoff. The delivery was prompt and both the driver and the person I had talked to on the phone were very nice.
Cafe Intermezzo has a great selection of coffee and desserts. This location has an outdoor patio, and my friends and I felt like we were at a European sidewalk cafe. The whole menu was a little pricey though. Still, I wouldn't mind going here every now and then for a treat.
I had some technicians from Atlanta Equipment Company come out to look at a refrigerated display unit that wasn't working. They were able to diagnose the problem and fix it after they obtained the right parts. The workers seemed very knowledgeable and experienced. I would recommend their services for equipment repair.
