Anthony's HomePort
Anthony's has something for everyone, but for me it is the weekday Happy Hour from 4:30-6:00 pm. There is a great menu of half-price appetizers (my husband loves the bucket of muscles but I go for the chowder and calamari). With a glass of wine (also half price) it's the perfect meal. We also love to have coffee and dessert and watch the stunning sunsets on the Des Moines waterfront.
Union Restaurant
At the Union, every dish is a special treat, a surprise and an education. I'm a picky eater and was scared to try the gourmet food at this restaurant near Pike Place Market. I have been to the Union twice now and even scary sounding dishes prove to be delicious. With Chef Ethan Stowell, I'm not afraid to try anything! No wonder Food and Wine Magazine have named Ethan "Best New Chef" for 2008!
Wally's Chowder House
It just doesn't get any better than "all you can eat" fish and chips for lunch on the veranda in the summertime. The clam chowder is rich and thick. Good homemade pies for dessert.
Athens Pizza & Pasta
World class pizza--yummy, lots of everything (without too much), and great crust. But don't miss out on the good Greek food as well. My husband also loves the BBQ ribs. Informal. Good value.
Des Moines Cinema
Why drive to one of the big multi-plexes for an evening out? The Des Moines Cimema shows first-run movies for less money with a variety of great restaurants all around. Friendly and quaint.
Print Place
Friendly, family owned and operated. Great service with easy self-serve copiers as well. Convenient location in downtown Des Moines. Owners are active supporters in the community, too!
