Eating at this restaurant is a fun experience. The guys who serve us are cheerful and funny, almost like a comedy act. If it's your first time, they explain everything to you as they set you up. My favorite is the large order of shrimp shabu shabu. So first, they fire up the soup pot then have you season it using their selection of seasonings. Then they bring out my plate of veggies, which you can blanch one at a time or dump into the soup and boil for a longer period of time. When my plate of peeled shrimps come out, I blanch them one at a time so that they don't get overcooked. The finishing touch is when they bring out a bowl of udon noodles, so that you can combine it with the broth and veggies left in the pot. This is a fun place to go on a date night or with a bunch of friends. This may be fun for older kids and pre-teens who are careful, but I don't recommend it for children unless you don't mind doing the work and feeding them.
PROs: Dr. Howard does a thorough checkup of your eyes. Nice front desk staff. Stocks nice frames. Reader magazine always has coupons offering great deals. CONs: Easy to miss the driveway into his office bldg. Parking is tight. Although he has nice frames on hand, he doesn't offer many choices for frames. They do offer catalogs to order from, but with glasses, I feel like I have to see how they look on my face before I commit.
I've always had a great experience with Dr. Howard. He doesn't offer what the bigger chains do, like 30-day guarantee, but he does want you to be satisfied. When my husband got his first pair of glasses ever and was not satisfied, Dr. Howard and his staff worked it out with us reasonably.
I was referred to Dr. Fremont by a co-worker who hated going to the dentist. She was right about Dr. Fremont. He really cares about your dental care and has a great staff of friendly people, like him. He wants your experience to be comfortable. He has headsets piped with your choice of music so that you don't hear the drilling. Or you can connect your headset to the television and watch tv. Dr. Fremont's best service is his deep cleanings, which he splits into two sessions. Your teeth really come out so smooth and free of tartar. He gives you shots so that you don't feel the pain, and he is so good at giving those shots that you don't feel when the needle goes in. He is such a nice man, too. When he heard I had little cousins visiting, he wouldn't let me leave without a heaping bag of children's sample toothbrushes, dental flosses and toothpastes.
This store has been in existence for decades now and they take good care of the comics that are in their possession. Almost everything is in plastic. The staff is very knowledgeable and you can take your time browsing until you find the right items to buy.
We discovered Sushi House by accident when one of the eateries nearby was full. This place had a lot of customers, but there are many tables and counter seats so Sushi House had lots more room to accommodate us. We were pleasantly surprised with the free edamame, the inexpensive combo meals and sushi rolls, and fast service. They have excellent combos where you can get 4 or 5 rolls of sushi for as low as $12. This, along with their party platter section, are easy on the wallet and great if you have a group that is very hungry. The party platter of tempura shrimp is recommended. For dessert, we usually hope over next door to the Rite Aid and get some ice cream.
This is a great hotel because it's located right on the water, next door to the SD Convention Center, and walking distance to everything in downtown SD, including Seaport City, Gaslamp, Horton Plaza. Inside the hotel is like a little city. You could get lost just in the lobby. It's nice to go to the pool area because there are so many lounge chairs that you're not having to fight for a good spot. They also have a great restaurant by the pool that offers a great breakfast buffet. Don't worry that it's so close to the trolley line. You can barely hear the trolley from your room. The service is also great. Every worker is "just right". They ask you if you need help, but they don't hover. It's very relaxing at this hotel.
This store always has a sale going on and their shoes are stylish. The best thing about this store is their clearance rack in the back. Sometimes it takes a while to get someone's attention or they only have one worker, so I end up standing in the checkout line to get a size to try one, or have my husband stand in line while I browse for the shoes I want to try on.
June is a shoe store that sell the non-brand name items, but if you don't care about that, then this place is a real bargain. They always have sales, and not just on the crazy styles that no one else would wear. This store is trendy, but it also has the basic necessary shoes, like black or brown heels, and all for a great price.
See Connie for skin care. She helped my aunt get rid of her sun spots and lighten her skin in general. She helped me improve my acne with just one visit. She uses an awesome benzoyl peroxide cleanser with exfoliants and I can not live without it now. She always gave me samples from her stash, but I actually had to beg her to sell some to me since I ran through the samples so quickly. I plan to keep coming back at least once a month to clear up the last remaining stubborn blemishes. She worked miracles on my friend's acne so Connie has the magic touch.
They do a great job at installing watch batteries while you wait. They are fast! They also fix chains, so this is a great place to come to. Other than repairs, they also sell little keepsakes like flip lighters, miniature crystal figurines and money clips. They even have original designs on the lighters and money clips, so can find an original gift for someone.
