Carolina's Mexican Food
Quite possibly the single worst dining experience ever. How can anyone mess up a carnitas burrito is beyond me, but this Carolina's managed to. I was pleasantly surprised that I did not become I'll from the few bites I had.
The Porridge
Meals come with rice or rice porridge. Order your dishes from the counter up front. I always order the fried egg with preserved radish. An adventurous palate will be rewarded here. It does help if you speak Mandarin, but it's not necessary as pointing to the dish you want works as well. It can be crowded at dinner time.
Pivot Hair Salon
Located upstairs in the strip mall next to the Hilton. I like how they have plenty of style books including ones from Japan. The hair wash usually comes with a mini scalp massage, depending on who's washing hair that day. Have been going here for the past 15 years and no complaints.
Hillsdale Doughnuts
The custard filled doughnuts here are excellent. No yucky chocolate or...god forbid...maple icing on these. Just plain old glazed. The custard is nice and not sickeningly sweet. Mmmmm...one of these and a coffee yum.
Chaat Cafe
Samosa's are great. I also like the sandwich rolls made wtih the naan bread. Very good. The Tikka Masa roll in the batura is also very good, albeit a little oil, but the batura IS deep fried bread. This order comes with 2 rolls so it is enough for two meals for me.
Rice Bowl Restaurant
This is my first choice for dimsum in Sac. Exterior may not be much too look at as it is a rough area of South Sac and next to a bingo parlor, however once inside the space is quite nice. Banquet quality space. Dim sum is excellent and variety is good. Food was served nice and hot.
Louisiana Heaven Cajun Cuisine
I wish they had done a better job on the food. Had the seafood gumbo, but it was really the cheaper chicken and sausage gumbo with the addition of two skinny crab legs....the kind that you throw away instead of eat because there's no meat on them. Also it was inedible because it was soooo salty. I felt well and truly deceived on that one. The potato salad is bland and strangely waxy. The sauce on the rib was excellent, but the ribs were lacking. Dry and not meaty at all.
Lou's Drive In
Funky burger joint on a rough stretch of Watt Ave.
Burgers are pretty good. I like the special sauce they put on theirs. Wish they had shoe string fries instead of crinkle cut. I managed to force myself to eat them though. =P The cherry shake was fantastic!
Kazoku Teriyaki & More
Had the deluxe bento with gyoza, Kazoku chicken, rice, and california roll. The food was rather bland. The gyoza had been deep fried instead of pan fried. Overall I was pretty unimpressed. Also the price was rather high for the quantity and the quality of the food.
Savory Fried Chicken
Had the combo place with fried chicken, rice, gravy, and egg rolls. Chicken was fresh, hot and crispy. Good food amount of food for a great price.
They also have halo-halo which hits the spot on a hot day.
