Dr. Gearhart was the first OB-GYN I visited. I've now been seeing her for a year and a half and I'm consistently satisfied with her service. I visit her location in St. Luke's Hospital, which is convenient and a very cleanly, professional office (although parking can sometimes be a hassle).Dr. Gearhart and her entire staff are a delight. The receptionist is familiar with the patients and makes you feel welcome from the first moments in the office. Hilde, her nurse practitioner, is like the grandmother that you can go to with any health questions--and come back with more answers than you may have been seeking! They are professional with their procedures and try to complete them quickly (which is nice for anyone who feels uncomfortable with gynecological procedures). Whenever I have a question, I simply call the office and Dr. Gearhart or Hilde will usually call me back within the day. They are very comforting and direct in their instructions. I always feel relieved after talking to one of them. The scheduling of appointments is absolutely fabulous, as well. As a college student, I usually only have a few days when I can get in to see them. The receptionist quickly sets aside time for me when I call and is flexible about the time of day I can come in.Although I haven't experienced pregnancy yet, I think I'll probably stay with Dr. Gearhart when I do become pregnant. She's obviously an obstetrics-focused OB-GYN (which can be frustrating for women seeking only gynecological exams and birth control), but it makes me optimistic about my future with the practice. I would recommend Dr. Gearhart for first-time gynecologist visits and continuing care.
Clark St. Dog provides what I would consider all-American comfort food: bugers, hot dogs (with "everything"), and Philly cheesesteak. They also feature international favorites like gyros. While the environment may not seem like the cleanest place, the food is pretty much addictive. And it's not pre-made like fast food chains. When you walk up, you can order a big double-cheeseburger and the toppings are totally personalized. Pickles, onions, peppers, mustard, ketchup, or "everything" (I'm not even entirely sure what that entails).
Open until 3 am or 4am on weekends, this is a perfect Wrigleyville business. The only con is that it only accepts cash, but it's not terribly expensive. A double cheeseburger, char-dog, and 2 bottled drinks comes up to roughly $20.
Dieters and vegetarians: this is NOT the place for you. You may feel a little guilty when you first order up some of the greasy goodness, but the first bite reminds you why you keep coming back for more.
A real neighboorhood favorite--Clark Dog should be the occasional treat for any Chicagoan.
I had some initial reservations about visiting Rosin Eye Care after calling their offices. I felt that their receptionist had a lot of attitude and was overall rude to me. After meeting her in person, this wasn't the case. I was referred to Rosin by Crown Vision Centers in St. Louis. It seems that Crown is the group that doesn't have it together, not Rosin.
Their offices are very nice, cleanly, open, and inviting. Nothing too clinical. I was there for a correction of my contact prescription. When they found out that I'd already used my vision insurance this year (on the botched contact prescription), they quickly got to work trying to find out if they could save me any money using my medical insurance. They were very apologetic when they realized this wouldn't be the case.
Dr. Lagina was very warm and helpful to me. Although I've been visiting optometrists for 12 years now, she was careful to explain all of the procedures to me and really listened to what I wanted in my contacts. She carefully adjusted the prescription (back to what it was BEFORE I visited Crown Vision Centers), got me the brand I wanted, and even suggested a new type of cleaning solution that has really made my contacts more comfortable.
Although I ended up paying about $200 for the new patient exam and a 6-month supply of contacts (after one of their associates went online with me to find the best price for them), I was happy with my visit and may continue to visit Rosin Eye Care in the future.
Imo's Pizza and St. Louis are almost synonymous. They specialize in thin-crust pizza with a sweet sauce and different cheese than is usually found on pizza (most likely, provel). They also cover the pizza in a blend of Italian herbs and spices.Featuring Anheuser-Busch beers and toasted ravioli, Imo's is a must-try for anyone visiting STL.
A must-try, but not necessarily a must-love. Thin crust and provel sweet sauce aren't for everyone. If this is the case, then Imo's probably isn't the place for you. Their lasagna is sloppy and is covered in the same sweet tomato sauce, which gets old after a few bites. Don't waste your money on the garlic bread, either--it's a joke.
That's not to desicrate the name of a home-town favorite. While I'm certainly not a die-hard Imo's fan like my sister, I still have to indulge in a piece or two of "the square beyond compare" everytime she orders a Hawaiian. And yes, college students, this pizza is just as good (if not better) the next morning.
Definitely easy on the wallet, especially compared to Chicago pizza places specializing in deep dish or stuffed pizzas.
Malia opened up a few years probably about 7 years ago near my home in Creve Coeur. My mom and my sister and I have been going there ever since. While it can be stressing on the wallet ($55-$80 for a haircut and finish), the results are always worth it. My sister and I tend to wait to get our haircuts until we have a break from college and can come home to go to Malia. The facials are also to die for. The relaxing atmosphere and professional work ethic leave the customers at ease. Every visit is personalized--they do great work with all types of hair and skin and are meticulous in getting it right. I've even had them offer to fix my bangs for free when I was dissatisfied with them (even though no one at the salon had done the original haircut!)
I would recommend Malia to anyone seeking a really well-done, fashionable haircut. They recognize and reward faithful customers. They're always friendly and professional--they are very conscientious when it comes to picking staff. They've got a great selection of Bumble and Bumble products, along with many other brands. Their gift certificates are perfect for anyone looking to relax or update their style.
