We have eaten at Chubby's on a couple of occasions, but picked up barbecue to bring home more often than that. Chubby's is conveniently located on Route 15 and every time I head up to PA, I stop on the way back for a special treat.
The restaurant is spacious and open, but I don't "love" dining in here... the atmosphere is just "okay". But the barbecue is fantastic! It is flavorful and moist, and everything I have had from there, from the barbecue pork to the brisket, has been excellent!
Cramer's is one of those place that you walk in and "everybody knows your name"! I love that this store has just about everything you could possibly need to fix, build or modify anything in or around your home! We have been visiting Cramer's for years, and I also have to commend their sense of community and their willingness to help the local youth. I have been involved in several projects with local youth organizations, and Cramer's is always willing to help us out in any way they can! I highly recommend Cramer's to contractors and homeowners alike!
The Fuji Japanese Steakhouse just recently opened in Walkersville. We were thrilled to have something different close to home and couldn't wait to try it! We should have waited!
First of all, you should know that this is not one of the Japanese Restaurants that puts on a "show" at the table. It is a regular restaurant that serves Japanese food. When we arrived, the place was not overly crowded. We were seated right away. However, we waited an exceptionally long time for our food to come.
We actually waited for so long, that they brought us a free plate of sushi. This would have been a nice touch if anyone at our table ate sushi. When they finally did get around to bringing our food an hour after we ordered, they completely forgot to make my son's meal! I asked where his food was, and she apologized that they forgot to make it, but when she returned from the kitchen, it was to tell us that they had run out of the steak that he had ordered for his meal! At that point, he was so upset, he said just forget it - we could get him McDonald's on the way home.
When we finally got to taste our food, the vegetables were cold, the steak lacked flavor and regardless of how everyone in our party ordered the steak for their meal (i.e. rare, medium rare, well-done), everybody's meat was well done!
The only reason I gave this two stars instead of one is because they were very nice, and after all that, they did give us a discount off of our total bill. After reading other positive reviews of the restaurant, I have to hope that this was all just due to being "new", and once they have a chance to get their act together, I *may* try them again... if I'm REALLY hungry, and REALLY don't want to cook, and REALLY don't want to drive further than 30 seconds from my house!
This martial arts school is conveniently located in the shopping center right on Route 194, a few doors down from Bloom Grocery Store.
Both of my boys attended lessons here, and stayed with it for many years (one of them is now a first-degree black belt, and the other is a novice black belt). Throughout the years, it was like a roller coaster ride - as it is with any of their sports or extra-curricular activities. Some days they couldn't wait to get there, other days it was all I could do to get them in the car. But in the end, this was one of the most worthwhile activities I have ever done (or could ever do) with my kids, and the pride they have from reaching their goals will carry with them throughout their lives.
It is a very costly program, and that remains a concern to many families. However, the instructors are top-notch, and the focus on the family is second to none. The entire family has so much to gain from experiencing the lessons at this school. And the instructors not only focus on martial arts, but also put an emphasis on academics, as well as help parents to teach the children respect in all that they do.
If you are in the market for a life-altering activity for your child, you definitely need to check it out!
This is a great local shop to get a haircut, and I love that they can do everyone in the family! The atmosphere of the shop is quaint, with a nice decor and comfy chairs to wait in. There are toys for the kids to play with while they wait, which is a very nice bonus. The stylists are quite skilled, but the prices are still very reasonable. I highly recommend giving them a try if you are in the market for a new salon!
We have been frequenting Saylor's for years, for everything from salt for the water system to dowel rods for craft projects. Saylor's is a hometown hardware store that carries just about everything under the sun!
The shop is owned by a local family, and they are incredibly friendly and helpful. And as others have said... if you can't find it at Saylor's, it may not exist! They have EVERYTHING!
Saylor's should definitely be your first stop when you need something for the house or garden!
We popped in Cafe Nola with some friends after a gathering at the library. We all had kids and strollers with us, so I was pleasantly surprised to see that there was PLENTY of room for us, our kids and our strollers! Although it is VERY nicely decorated in a comfortable, but upscale motif, they didn't seem to mind the children being there, and the owner greeted us and asked us to please come back.
The coffee was excellent, and so was the sandwich I shared with a friend. I also got my daughter a sandwich, which she had no problem devouring, so yes, the kids will like it too!
I highly recommend a visit to Cafe Nola!
With very few actual "delicatessen" type establishments to choos from in the area, I am happy Crabapple's is here! They do have good quality food, but the location is somewhat small, so good luck finding an open table on any given day during business lunch hours. Best to get it to go!
I've been there a couple of times, once for dinner with my family, and once for "drinks" with a couple of friends.
Dinner was very good, and the service was excellent. Everyone in the family enjoyed their meal, and my kids especially enjoyed looking at all of the fire department "stuff" on the walls!
Drinks with friends was also highly satisfactory! This was the first time I had a "drink" there, and we requested a specialty frozen drink that not everyone always makes correctly. I have to say that the Ott House did it right! It was great! We also got some munchies to go with our beverages, and enjoyed a fun atmosphere to hang out and chat.
We visited Dr. Bowman during our search for an orthodontist for my son. While he seemed to boast the "latest in technology", his office left quite a bit to be desired. He is located in a somewhat run-down building with outdated and quite depressing decor. My son didn't even want to sit down in the waiting room, and we both were happy to leave the office when the interview was over. Don't waste your time.
