This bar is the least pretentious place in the Gold Coast. It's dirty, dark, and so much fun! The night I was there, a reggae band was playing and one of the owners (with an incredible voice) jumped on stage and started singing along. Everyone there is having a great time and incredibly friendly. Drinks are cheap. Space is limited- so later in the night, it got a little cramped, but it was still one of my favorite spots. It's been around forever and has a very "cheers" vibe. Highly recommended!
If you have always dreamed of a romantic carriage ride, this is your chance. The horses (and drivers) line up off of Michigan Avenue- one block north of Chicago Ave. The drivers are sweet and always have blankets for cold days. The horses seem to be treated well, but some humanitarians may not like the idea of the horses being on such busy city streets. The owners are very charitable, which makes me like the company even better. Great for tourists or date night!
This store has adorable clothes for your pet- at higher prices that most people pay for their own clothes. A dog sweater for $80 is not uncommon. If you are a regular big spender, the owners will gush all over you and your dog. If you (gasp) look through the sales bins for too long or don't regularly spend big bucks, you are likely to be snubbed. If the prices don't keep me away, the horrible service does. And if something isn't in stock, they won't order it for you or let you know when it comes in. Basically, a social club for the owners and rich dog owners. Not a fan.
This store is actually one store divided into multiple stores on the same street. Womens, mens, accessories are separate and worth going to each. Original designs are trendy and inexpensive, shoes are cute and unique. I get more compliments on my original Akira dress than anything in my closet. Annual fashion show to benefit cancer charity Imerman Angels is the event of the year for an amazing cause. Big fan.
Great place for gourmet mac and cheese, homemade matzo ball soup, and sandwiches to order. The pre-made food is a little expensive, but well worth it. Great for a take out lunch with good food and good service!
Great neighborhood pet supply spot. Knowledgeable staff is helpful and offers great advice if you are looking for new products. Healthy and hard to find dog foods for discerning pets. Bones, toys and a small selection of basic leashes, collars and apparel too. If you have a puppy or use potty pads, they offer a continual buy one get the second half off offer that can't be beat.
Friendly and good service, always do a good job. They tend to take a little longer than average, but always reliable. They just started doing alterations last year which is helpful to have on site.
This is the place to go if you have something special that you want tailored right. They always do a phenomenal job and have been around for a long time. Prices can be high, but well worth it. Best "original hem" jean alterations around. Great spot!
After going to pricey salons, spas and a specialty wax place, I found the best in this small salon. The woman was so nice and did an amazing job. The decor isn't as "swanky" as many other neighborhood salons, but the service is better and cheaper. Highly recommended.
This place was highly recommended to me and did not disappoint. My stylist was eager to make sure I got a haircut I loved and worked overtime to do a great job. Everyone was friendly and the atmosphere was great. Pushed the "extras" a little too much and I felt like I spent more than I needed to, but great haircut and great experience. Recommended!
