Brooklyn Fish Camp
I've been to to this restaurant twice. The first time the food was delicious, but the service was painfully slow.
The 2nd time I called in a take-out order:
"Do you have lobster rolls today?"
"Yes."
"I'll take 4."
"No problem. Come by in 20 minutes to pick them up."
20 minutes later:
"Oh, a guest who was eating in ordered 4 lobster rolls, and since yours were the only 4 we had left, we served them to our sit down guests."
Enough said.
Zaro's Bakery
Zaro can be an EXCELLENT source of tasey desserts and savory quiches, but freshness is sometimes an issue. If you want to guarantee an excellent purchase, I recommend special ordering a cake or quiche for pick-up on the day you need it.
I think the world of their gruyere cheese and ham quiche, as well as their quiche with goat cheese. Their chocolate mousse and chocolate cake combination is outstanding. They make it without adding sugar (sweetness is from the dark chocolate they use and heavy cream).
Colson Patisserie
Patisserie Colson has the best coissants and pains au chocolat In Brooklyn. The owner of the shop trained under the famed Hubert Colson of Begium. How could anything be bad?
Otto
Definitely pricier than I normally go for, but Otto really does have good merchandise and they usually have decent sales. This autumn I bought a gorgeous dress there from a local Park Slope designer and have been complimented on it dozens of times.
Otto is also a great local source for SPANX products.
Belleville
Belleville serves authentic French brassiere food that is consistently good. The decor is inviting and the staff is very friendly and helpful. I find this to be a great place for a date OR a family dinner with the kids.
Elementi Restaurant
I've been to brunch at Elementi twice, and both times the food was very good but the service was slower than mollases. In early November of 2008 we went in with a party of 9 and it took over an hour to get the basic brunch food we ordered. Once it arrived it was great, but should you really have to wait that long to be served?
Eurotrip Restaurant
Finally, a great place for classic, slow-cooked goulash in Park Slope!
If you're there for a drink and just want to snack on bar food, try the Wunderwurst Platter, a sampling of German, Hungarian and Polish sausages, with sauces.
Frankies 457 Spuntino
Frankie's is a lovely, romantic restaurant with wonderfully fresh Italian fare and good service. Menu stand-outs include the soups (lentil with smiked bacon and escarole & canellini bean) and the house-made gnocchi. The restaurant also features one of my favorite desserts on the planet -- ricotta cheese cake -- made from an old family recipe.
Root Stock & Quade
Root Stock and Quade came highly recommended as a wedding flourist, so I was less than pleased on my wedding day when the delivery person showed up with flowers that weren't very fresh. Also, the ribbon quality wasn't as nice as you might expect, and one of the wrist corsages didn't have the band so you could attach it to a wrist. Sigh.

Great family brunch spot, clean & bright atmosphere. My kids absolutely love the "Perch Toast" (batter dipped sour dough bread with strawberry preserves & maple syrup), while I adore the egg, bacon, & cheese sandwich (three egg fritatta, jalapeno, caramelized onions, bacon, cheddar). Everything I've tried has been very good.
