Amoeba is a landmark in LA, and in fact, just won best of LA by Los Angeles Magazine - beating out Pink's hot dogs and other long revered fixtures in the community. You can find ANYTHING you're searching for here - their used collection is second to none. They also often have free performances by musical artists - check out the website for upcoming events.
Cozy neighborhood restaurant - great food, good service, and a great atmosphere. Terrific place to go for a first date or for intimate conversation - highly recommend it if you're in the mood for Italian.
Cafe Nidda is my favorite casual place to go for Thai in Houston. The service is good and the menu covers all the bases. My favorite is the Red Curry Chicken, which is the closest to authentic I've had in a long time.
Check it out when you're next in the mood for something spicy!
This place is always filled with Japanese folks, a good sign that the food is worthwhile and authentic. They have everything from sushi to tempura to bento boxes, and it's all good. I've only been for lunch, but the service is efficient and courteous.
Great coffee shop with great ambience right on Sunset. Great place to sit and people watch, read or book, or have great conversation with a friend.
The coffee is phenomenal, some of the best I've had in LA, and I take the beans home to make my own. Highly recommended!
Noodle shop in a strip mall, but what it lacks in ambience it more than makes up for in flavor. The ramen is some of the best I've had in LA, and they also have other options (curry, fried rice) for those looking for something a bit more substantial. I also highly recommend the ma bo rice.
The women working the restaurant are very friendly and the service is quick. Great lunch stop!
Great atmosphere, great sushi! The chef is a former contestant on Top Chef, so the restaurant has gained in popularity of late, but it has always been worth a visit.
The fried ice cream is especially good!
I've been to Mark's on many occasions - it's a beautiful setting (an old church), and the service is second to none.
The food is amazing - everything I've had has been superb. Chef Mark hand selects the wine (smaller vintages), and the desserts are worth saving room for. I especially recommend the warm chocolate cake - amazing!
Great for a special occasion - anniversary, promotion, etc.
This is our Sunday breakfast routine. Great food, great options - healthy or otherwise. I like the egg white make your own omelet; and my friend swears by the french toast. Lots of outdoor seating - worth a visit!
Sadie's is crowded, loud, and the wait times to get seated can be pretty ridiculous.
However, if you want authentic, phenomenal New Mexican cuisine, you have to go. The chicken enchiladas are a fave, and you have to try their salsa, which they market and sell around the US.
Have a Negra Modelo in the bar after you put your name on the list - the food is worth the wait!
