Formerly known as 2nd Bank and Trust, StellarOne is a great local bank. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and their rates are very competitive. It's nice to have a bank that treats its customers as more than a number.
The Red Lantern offers standard Chinese restaurant fare, but the good-sized portions and low prices set it apart. The ingredients are always fresh, and the food is cooked just right.
Great food in a nice atmosphere. The Timberwood Grill's menu offers good variety, with old standards dressed up with fresh new sauces and side dishes. For the kids, the fries are the best in town!
Located just off of I-64 at Pantops, Aunt Sarah's is the place to get your pancake fix (especially if you live south or east of Charlottesville). The blueberry pancakes, grilled to perfection, were swimming in huge, juicy blueberries. If you go on Sunday morning, expect to wait a while for a seat.
Tubby's is my favorite sandwich shop in Charlottesville. Not your "cookie cutter" sub shop, Tubby's makes its sandwiches fresh to order, and does not pre-portion its meats and cheeses. Tubby's offers other items (burgers, steak sandwiches, and pastas), but I can't bring myself to order anything other than a great hoagie.
Chap's, located on the Downtown Mall near the Paramount, serves great ice cream at a good price. Enjoy your cone as you walk the mall, and be ready to tell fellow pedestrians where you got it!
Rhett's, located on 29N across from Sam's Club, serves excellent food in a surprisingly nice atmosphere. The seafood was well prepared, the steaks were correctly grilled, and the portion sizes were above average. The waitstaff was attentive without being annoying and the prices competitive, leading to an overall nice dining experience.
Located just two blocks west of the Omni Hotel and west end of the Downtown Mall, this place serves good food at a decent price. The menu is similar to its sister restaurant on The Corner, but the atmosphere is much nicer for the non-college student. Very worthwhile!
Five Guys offers great hamburgers, made-to-order with a good number of toppings. No need to "supersize" your hamburger or fries; a "Little Hamburger" and regular fries will have you loosening your belt as you roll out. The fries are cut on site, and served up hot and fresh. Good eats!
Christian's, on the downtown mall, offers a tremendous variety of pizza. Choose a slice and have it re-heated, or order an entire pizza. The toppings are the strength of this pizza. Grab a seat by the window and enjoy your pizza while watching the people stream by on the mall.
