The hotel was fine enough, but we went to the restaurant (Sundance cafe) expecting quasi-fine dining and it was the worst service I've ever had in my life. As a server, I am very understanding to the ups and downs of the job and don't complain unless it's really warranted. As such, I'm also a very good tipper (usually $10 for every $20 I spend). The restaurant was pretty dead, and my wife and I came in after a hike....we're not dressed to the nines but we don't look like paupers or anything. It was obvious no one really wanted us. It took more than 5 minutes to get greeted, 10 to get my beer, and the server comes up to us after *30 minutes* to tell us she forgot to put our order in. They were dead, so she had to have just been goofing around....there was no excuse. We sat without refills and other servers just walked right past us. No one cared. We finally got our dinner after an hour and when she dropped our ticket off she stood right over us while I was counting out the cash. I can understand being a new server, but it was just ridiculous, especially for $20 a plate. I would have told a manager, but I doubt they would have cared.
I left her seven on ~$45 because I understand losing money through tipshare, but even that lame tip was hardly earned. Had the service been excellent, I would have left ~$20. If I feel like hiking in SW OK again, I'll just go to the wichitas and grab a burger at Meers.
